The Smart Hospital now open

In 2021, UTA began building the School of Social Work/College of Nursing and Health Innovation Smart Hospital Building, a new facility that will unite the University’s celebrated School of Social Work (SSW) under one roof and will house the College of Nursing and Health Innovation’s (CONHI) modernized Smart Hospital, a training space that includes mock patient rooms and medical robots. This new building is now open for the Spring 2023 semester.

When Kyairra Burns volunteers at area pediatric hospitals, she knows just what young patients are looking for—because she used to be one of them.

Paving the way for adaptive sports

Doug Garner, retired head coach of the UTA Movin’ Mavs, was invited to be the guest speaker at the Eugene Anderson Lecture Series for the Department of Kinesiology. Speakers in this series are those who have made significant contributions to sports. With his positive impact in adapted sports at UTA, nationally, and internationally, Garner has paved the way for opportunities for disabled athletes. Read more.

| CONHI Receives funding from HCA to increase awareness and enrollment
Dr. Candice Calhoun-Butts, assistant dean of Enrollment and Student Services and Academic Advising, was recently awarded the Healthier Tomorrow Fund from the HCA Healthcare Foundation. This award will work to increase awareness and enrollment in health-related professions as well as aid in advancing UTA CONHI. Read more.

Walmart grants Dr. Jaquetta Reeves $,1000 community donation which goes to the UTA Foundation Relations Department to be used for her reserch efforts.

CONHI has hosted two events to welcome our students back to campus for the Spring 2023 Semester: The Welcome Back Cookies with CONHI and a Career Fair.

A unique parade took place on UTA’s campus this week, FOX 4 reported, as staff transported lifelike manikins from the College of Nursing and Health Innovation to the new 150,000-square-foot Smart Hospital and School of Social Work. The manikins simulate patients and range from infant to adult size. They speak and have heart and lung sounds, which gives Maverick nursing students the innovative and accurate training that they need.
