Angelissa Gutierrez Murillo |
Hi everyone! My name is Angelissa Gutierrez Murillo, and I am currently a freshman studying Neuroscience and Behavior with a minor in the Foundations of Business and a prospective minor in Latino Studies! I am also a QuestBridge Scholar and part of the Transformational Leaders Program. You may see me around Jordan or Hess throughout the week.
I am a proud Jersey Girl, born and raised. I grew up in Morristown, NJ, and if there’s one thing I’m going to mention when you meet me is how much I love my hometown and their local bagel shops. On campus, I live in Pasquerilla East (Go Pyros!).
Coming to Notre Dame in August was a thrilling yet slightly nerve wracking experience. I did not know what to expect, but this year has been full of opportunities, friendships, and lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. I am forever grateful for Galvin and the professors that built this program- it is the biggest blessing in disguise. Galvin gave me the sense of community and family in this large campus the first few weeks of school. I have made so many lifelong friends and mentors through the program along the way. Sometimes the highlight of my week is going to Problem Solving and talking to my Galvin friends and professors.
This summer I am looking forward to shadowing Caggiano Orthodontics in my hometown and working with Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos in the Dominican Republic through NDBridge. I will also be working as an ASCEND Coach for our incoming fellow Scholars!
I can’t wait to see what is to come over the next three years for my fellow Galvin Scholars and myself. Don’t hesitate to say hi if you see me on campus!

This position is designed for post-undergraduates who are interested in a career in healthcare and want exposure to clinical research, quality improvement, and/or hospital administration. Cohen Children’s Medical Center’s Pediatric Emergency Department is the busiest pediatric ED and the busiest pediatric trauma center in the tristate area.
Academic Associates (AAs) will be integral members of our team in the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine, participating in all components of our projects. They will assist faculty with ongoing research projects and work collaboratively with one or more mentors in designing new projects of mutual interest. Additional responsibilities include:
- Assist in quality and performance improvement projects.
- Coordinate the Division's yearly Pediatric Emergency Medicine Symposium.
- Provide administrative and research support for the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship.

Academic Associates will have the added opportunity to participate in the many modalities of medical education that takes place in the division which includes, Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship conference and various clinical educational simulations as well. There will also be opportunities for shadowing of clinicians in the pediatric emergency department. Dr Rocker, the Division Chief, will also lead several personalized educational sessions throughout your time in the position.
Academic Associates will gain a comprehensive perspective on the workings of an academic medical department. Priority will be given to applicants prepared to make a 2-year commitment, though alternate schedule arrangements will be considered.
