SMPA HOSTS DISINFORMATION CONFERENCE
The Contentious Narratives conference brought together top disinformation academics and reporters for research presentations and expert panels.
Professor Matthew Hindman presented his newly released Knight Foundation report on Twitter disinformation campaigns and Professor Ethan Porter presented research on political mistruths from his forthcoming book.
The research conference was organized by Professor Steven Livingston and continues the work of previous events at GW and Harvard.

HEALTH AND PLACE IN AMERICA
A new report by SMPA's American Communities Project explores the intersection of health, community and geography in the United States.

Globalization and the Media gives an insider's view of the dynamic and growing field of global media through a lecture course at GW and spring break trip to Paris.
The trip takes students inside the homes and offices of some of the global media industry's most influential figures.
Both information sessions are at 7 p.m. in MPA 406A.

WOMEN OF REDPEG GLASS CEILING SCHOLARSHIP
RedPeg Marketing will offer two $5,000 WoR on the Glass Ceiling scholarships to sophomore and junior female students studying communications or marketing.

PLANET FORWARD STORYFEST COMPETITION 
Planet Forward's annual competition recognizes compelling, student-told stories that illuminate environmental issues and solutions. The grand prize trip is a 10-day storytelling voyage through the Galápagos Islands.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT
The 2018 Institute for Documentary Filmmaking project Boys in the Boat won the Best Student Film Award at its premiere at the Awareness Festival in Los Angeles. This is the second straight year that an SMPA student team won the award.
Matthew Hindman co-authored the report “Disinformation, ‘Fake News’ and Influence Campaigns on Twitter” that has been cited by The Washington Post, NPR, CBS News, Mic and more. He also presented on the report at SMPA's Contentious Narratives conference.
Steven Livingston moderated a discussion at the launch event for a special issue of the Columbia University Journal of International Affairs on disinformation and hosted SMPA's Contentious Narratives conference.
Jason Osder and William Youmans were named Double Exposure fellows, a program that fosters dialogue between filmmakers and journalists working on investigative documentary projects as part of the Double Exposure Investigative Film Festival.
Frank Sesno joined CNN's “Reliable Sources” and MSNBC “Morning Joe” to discuss media coverage of the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation battle.
