Early Feedback Makes a Difference
Utilizing flag’s, kudo’s and referrals through UMKC Connect helps students to develop academic behaviors that support their success and encourages them to seek assistance earlier when needed. Summer Faculty Success Program Feedback
UMKC has an institutional membership to the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD). Last spring, faculty were invited to apply for a scholarship to a virtual bootcamp for faculty in which faculty work directly with a coach and a small group of other faculty to implement skills and strategies to mazimize their success. Below are the comments from the faculty who attended last summer's Faculty Success Program.

The NCFDD Summer Writing Program was transformative for my writing process and productivity. The program addressed all aspects of an academic’s writing process, from adopting good writing habits, tools for how to fit writing time into one’s busy schedule, to facing and overcoming negative self-talk and imposter syndrome. The program also addressed larger concerns about balancing work goals with personal goals and bringing joy and rest back into one’s writing and academic life. I highly recommend the program to every faculty member, regardless of their subject area.

The NCFDD Faculty Success Program (FSP) is an intensive 12-week summer program with weekly assignments and accountability for participants. I am grateful for being selected as a participant. Because my focus in the summer is writing, the tools provided by FSP such as the strategic planning and writing timer, are very useful. In addition, although not being a part of the program, I enjoyed watching the core curriculum videos available in the program. Overall, I have gained more knowledge and skills. Currently I am in the 12-week FSP Alumni Program to reinforce what I learned.

The NCFDD curriculum, coach, and group calls, showed me new ways to be a better professional and academic. These skills immediately helped me to find more success and satisfaction as a faculty member, educator, scholar, and in my personal life.
Ryan D. Mohan, Asscoiate Professor, Division of Biological and Biomedical Systems

I found the FSP program to be incredibly valuable. I solidified my understanding of strategic planning through it, and applied the art to my own life. This was supported through goal setting, accountability, and instruction on how to tailor my time for my goals and strategy. I also liked the space and opportunity to take stock of my past, and forecast my future in academia. My personal teaching philosophy is to be bold enough to make mistakes, and that culture of growth was underscored well in the FSP program, making it a safe place for me to learn and grow. I recommend the FSP program to any faculty member, but especially those who have traveled early academia and met, head-on, the crossroads of interest, intent and expectations.
