ACADEMIC Positions

The Department of Geography at the University of Washington invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor to specialize in geographies of climate justice. The successful candidate will offer introductory to advanced undergraduate human geography courses on the drivers and impacts of climate and environmental change, with a strong emphasis on equity and justice. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, work that extends beyond the U.S. and Canada. This is a renewable non-tenure track position, with a nine month service period, and an initial appointment term of 3 years. The candidate will teach a total of six courses during Autumn, Winter and Spring Quarters. UW faculty engage in scholarship, teaching, and service. The criteria for merit evaluation and promotion in Teaching Professor titles at the University of Washington are focused primarily on the teaching and service aspects. Anticipated start date is September 16, 2023.

The University of Wyoming (UW) invites applications for an Assistant/Associate Lecturer and Degree Coordinator in Outdoor Recreation and Tourism Management (ORTM).

We seek an accomplished and creative individual to manage and oversee the ORTM program, teach courses in ORTM, coordinate student internships, and provide service consistent with the educational missions of the University of Wyoming and the Helga Otto Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources. The ORTM degree emphasizes stewardship and conservation of natural resources, tourism, and outdoor recreation theories and best practices, entrepreneurial and business management strategies, creating outstanding visitor experiences, and a broad understanding of cultural and natural resources. The successful candidate will be familiar with the theory and practice of outdoor recreation and tourism fields and have demonstrated leadership, organization, and communication skills. We are seeking 112 interns to work in a variety of positions in different state government agencies across North Carolina from the mountains to the coast.

Summer internships range from clean energy to business services, construction engineer, procurement education, guest services, historic interpreter and more. Search opportunities by position, location or major.

All interns are expected to work 40 hours each week for 10 weeks, earning a stipend of $12 per hour. Depending on the project, the internship may be virtual, in-person or hybrid. In addition to hands-on professional development, interns also will participate in activities to broaden their knowledge of public service and state government.

About the Program

Governed by the NC Department of Administration’s Council for Women and Youth Involvement, the annual North Carolina Internship Program offers a 10-week, paid internship for college students interested in careers in state government.

Interns are selected based on a thorough review of applications, including academic records and interest in state government. Qualified candidates also may be selected for a virtual interview with prospective supervisors.

2023 Prospect Select Internship Program

Prospect Select Baseball, Inc (PS Baseball) was founded in 2008 by owner and president, Aaron Braithwaite. Based in Miami, PS Baseball provides an unmatched exposure opportunity for players through our tournaments and showcases. With events in Florida, the Carolinas, New England, and the Midwest, Prospect Select gives athletes the chance to show their abilities to a wide variety of local, regional, and national scouts at both the collegiate and professional levels.

PS Baseball is looking for college students from all over the country to help assist us in running our events the PS way and help grow our brand in each city we touch down in. Our interns will help pave the way in this by attending events throughout the summer and taking the PS process from event to event. Knowing the game of baseball would be beneficial although it is not required, we are open to accepting anyone who puts their heart into the internship and has a high motor every day. PS Baseball uses FlightScope to collect all of our data and analytics at each event, FlightScope allows us to build player profiles and boost college coaches to get the best knowledge on each player that attends our events.

In this internship, you will be able to learn the daily operations of PS Baseball along with getting hands-on work with our FlightScope technology. This internship will require you to have the months of June and July completely open due to traveling to our events.

The Agriculture Education Intern would support projects that serve our partner schools in Durham and Raleigh. These projects will focus on creating virtual resources for ag education, researching grants and existing resources that support ag education, and organizing existing materials and supplies. Urban Ag Ed Interns will also provide hands-on support for pop-up events, and work closely with the Urban Ag Ed Manager on these projects. This internship will have remote, outdoor, and in-person requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Research and record garden-based activities that support standard course of study in NC Public School systems within existing database
  • Review, edit, and research school garden design plans and processes
  • Create and organize educational materials that support Agriculture Education programs; this include virtual/digital content through video, presentations, and paper/digital flyers

Internships are for 3 – 4 months, based on the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters (Jan – May, May – August, August – December).

Join Student Leadership and Development for a service stress buster event on December 6th from 1:30-4:00pm at Talley Student Union 4210. You can stop by and leave at any time. We will be hosting two service events:

  1. Share the Warmth with Project Linus: participants can make no-sew fleece blankets that will be donated to Project Linus
  2. Handmake Cards for Cardz for Kidz: participants can make handmade cards that will be sent to senior living facilities, schools, the military and their families, foster homes/non-profits, hospitals, and patients’ homes.

Together, the members of the council: 1) advise the organization as it relates to NPCA’s strategic plan and engagement efforts, 2) work with NPCA staff to develop content for engaging new audiences, and 3) explore opportunities to engage a broader audience in national park advocacy with an emphasis on inclusion and equity. In addition to these key focal areas, the 2020-2022 cohort of the council will have the opportunity to help shape more specific priorities. We are especially looking for candidates with experience and interest in developing partnerships with diverse organizations and communities, creating compelling and innovative content, and mobilizing a base of committed advocates, though all qualified candidates will be considered.

City Parks Alliance of Washington DC seeks a Digital Content Coordinator to assist with social media management and website updates. The Coordinator will support communications about the benefits of urban parks and green space to current and potential members by providing updates on City Parks Alliance programs and informational resources. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at the J. Strom Thurmond Lake Project currently have an opening for a Park Ranger/Natural Resources Specialist at Thurmond Lake. Shenandoah University is hiring for the position of Coordinator for Campus Recreation & Wellness

The Coordinator for Campus Recreation & Wellness will have primary oversight of the Shenandoah Outdoor and Adventure Recreation (SOAR) Program, the South Campus Commons Pool, and various components of Clubs Sports. This is a 10-month, benefits-eligible full-time position that serves an integral role in Shenandoah University’s Campus Recreation Department. The Coordinator will join other staff in helping students gain an education that fully engages them in a vibrant, healthy co-curricular environment.
