MAY 28, 2019
Tutoring at the ARC
Hello Jumbos,
We're introducing academic life at Tufts this week and are taking you on a tour of all your supports and resources.
Update: BFA and Combined Degree students, we've just updated an item on your New Student Checklist 2019. Your Academic Essentials module will now be available starting June 17. (All other students will still be able to access Academic Essentials beginning June 3).

This Week's News and Announcements

Academics: Getting Started

There are many different fields of study at Tufts in the School of Arts and Sciences, School of Engineering, and at the School for the Museum of Fine Arts (or SMFA at Tufts). What's the best way to get your bearings?
We're glad you asked! We've created an Academics page just for incoming students to help you with your first steps:

Academic Advice and Support
Now that you're a Jumbo, you have a bunch of people and departments that are ready to help you make progress towards your degree. Here are the "123's" of Academic Advice and Support at Tufts.
All Jumbos have a team of advisors, including a special team for BFA students on the Fenway campus:
BA and BS students will meet with an assigned Pre-Major Advisor during Orientation; they'll help you register for courses. Combined Degree and BFA students will speak with a member of the SMFA Advising team over the summer and in person during Orientation for course registration. Student Success Advisors are another great resource on the Medford campus and can help BA, BS, and Combined Degree students explore majors and navigate University resources.
First- and second-year students have a special office to help get their college careers started. With a particular focus on underrepresented student groups, OSSA provides programming and connects students with co-curricular resources:
The Academic Resource Center supports your learning beyond the classroom by offering free individual and group sessions that focus both on specific content areas and skills that transfer to various academic situations. Their programs promote engaged, collaborative learning by building on your strengths while addressing your concerns and questions.

Explore the Center for STEM Diversity!

The Center for STEM Diversity works in partnership with the Schools of Engineering and Arts & Sciences to foster a diverse and inclusive science and engineering learning environment. We focus on strengthening meaningful student participation for traditionally under-represented groups, including women, African Americans, Native Americans, the LGBTQ community, and those who identify as Hispanic and/or Latinx. We also work intentionally with first-generation college students and with students from low-income backgrounds.
