Sara Huber Can’t Disguise Her PDX People Spirit

Sara Huber (she/hers) with Paradies Lagardère was nominated by a PDX employee:
“Sara at the Your Northwest Travel Mart kiosk delighted in-bound PDX passengers on Halloween by dressing – quite convincingly! – as an English steampunk werewolf in a hand-crafted outfit.
Sara's intricately adorned costume and spot-on accent made her character quite believable, and harkened back to the days of the Grimm TV show that had many of us believing that Portland really was the host city of supernatural creatures!”

What’s New with PDX Next: Ticket Lobby Work
Safety Update: We recently had an opportunity to prioritize our commitment to people’s safety over schedule with construction at PDX. While there were no injuries, PDX Next Chief Projects Officer Vince Granato shared that close calls on the job site encouraged us to briefly pause work. This pause gave the construction team time to rest, recuperate and refocus, and the Port of Portland time to start a bottoms-up look at the work, adjust the schedule where necessary and continue to put people first. As he said, we’re proud of our local construction team’s exceptional safety record as we work to bring the new PDX designs to life for our region and will share an updated opening timeline as soon as it’s finalized. You can also watch Vince’s interview with KOIN TV.
Oversized Bag Drop: As of last week, the temporary oversized bag drop location in south bag claim relocated to the area between baggage carousels 2 and 3.
Door Closure: The security door near baggage carousel 2 (Door T1772) will be inaccessible until Friday, March 29. There are two alternate routes to exit from the secured area to the public area:
•  Door T1860, between baggage carousels 6 and 7 (exit to the public area only)
•  Door T1773, south end of baggage claim (both entry and exit)

MAX Red Line Service Resumes Today
Great news! The MAX Red Line is back in service today – Monday, March 4. The construction closure was part of the “A Better Red” MAX Red Line Extension and Reliability Improvements Project, and TriMet also used the downtime to perform preventative maintenance within areas of the system. As a reminder, in addition to the second light rail track that’s already providing more reliable service to and from PDX, by Fall 2024, you’ll enjoy a new pedestrian-bicycle path that parallels the light rail tracks and continues to the Northeast 82nd and Air Cargo Road intersection, and 10 more Red Line stations in Beaverton and Hillsboro.

Guess Who’s Coming to PDX?!
In the coming weeks, we’ll share some short video intros to the 12 local shops coming to the new main terminal. Next up, you'll be able to grab a yummy pasta bowl when this local restaurant comes to PDX. They’ll be making pasta from scratch right in front of you and tossing in a dash of Portland flair...it’s Grassa!

Washington Post: Everyone Hates the Airport. These People Love Their Carpets

While some people aren't fans of the airport experience (no one we know, of course), a niche set of travelers are really into the carpets – especially at a handful of airports that have reached viral status for their rug designs. Thanks to this continued enthusiasm, we're bringing back the iconic PDX carpet in select areas when the new main terminal opens, along with terrazzo and Oregon White Oak flooring for high-traffic areas. The carpet will be good for your selfies and the smooth surfaces will be easier for wheelchairs and roller bags to scoot on by.
