Gwinnett County's Redistricting
Every 10 years, the state legislature redraws districts based on Census figures to ensure that each elected official is serving approximately the same number of people and to rebalance the districts based on population shifts. The redistricting represents significant changes in Gwinnett County, and the results of the November 8 election also changed our representatives.
Gateway85 and the Gwinnett Daily Post created the following insert as a reference guide for citizens located within the Gateway85 district to quickly and easily reach their elected officials and understand the political breakdown in our community. Please click here to see the guide and download it.

Gwinnett County Police Department's West Precinct Is Restructuring
At Gateway85, we are grateful to our local law enforcement and government for their continued presence and support of our communities. Not every CID is as fortunate to benefit from the exceptional foundation established by the Gwinnett Standard, and we wanted to let our members and community know of some changes happening at the Gwinnett County Police Department’s West Precinct. Commander, Major Eddie Restrepo, who has been a staple in our community, has moved over to now oversee the Special Operations Section. He will command SWAT, Aviation, K9, the West Precinct Accident Investigation Unit, DUI units and the Motors Unit.
The new commander for the West Precinct will be Major J.D. Griffin. Since 2005, Major Griffin has served as an Entry Team Member and Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear Explosive (CBRNE) response element for GCPD’s SWAT as well as a narcotics investigator. Major Griffin also served as Lieutenant of the West Precinct in 2019.
We are excited to see the GCPD continue to grow.

Unsung Hero Award and Public Service Award Honoree
On December 11, I was honored to be one of 28 community leaders recognized as one of Congressman Hank Johnson’s 2022 4th Congressional District of Georgia’s Unsung Hero Award Honorees.
Tim Le and I have also been recognized as recipients for Public Service Awards to be presented at the 75th Annual Gwinnett Dinner in early February. I am deeply humbled to share this honor with such an exceptional community member and Gateway85 CID board member. It is another reminder that our greatest accomplishments, both professional and humanitarian, are the result of the efforts of many united toward a common goal.
Thank you, again, to our business owners and community members for making Gateway85 CID an incredible place to live and work.

Tom Forkner, President of The Quin Group, is a 40-year veteran in commercial real estate in Gwinnett County, and is a local. Tom is acutely aware of how things have changed and has a clear vision of what he wants to see in the County’s future.
“The sidewalks and lighting, landscaping, and all the hard infrastructure… it’s enticing businesses, new development, quality development,” according to Tom. “The ability to walk from my office building to the surrounding businesses matters to me, as I’m sure it matters to other tenants and area owners. Accessibility improvements in particular are especially important to me, as my wife is handicapped,” he explains.
“I think it’s fun! The Gateway85 district is such a cool, bustling, diverse area. I just love it… I see a lot of potential.”
Tom is a big advocate of the district’s establishment, and fully supports the CID's welcoming of new and diverse businesses as it steadily grows.
“The leadership for Gateway85 is great,” said Tom. “The CID brought a vision for controlled, sustainable growth for the area.”
Tom admitted he is reaching retirement and plans to pass The Quin Group over to his son, who would be the fourth generation of real estate professionals in Gwinnett County for the Forkner family. His enthusiasm for the changes and improvements spearheaded by the CID makes him optimistic about the future of the family business and the professional community.
