Dear Community,
It's hard to believe that it was one year ago, Feb 2020, that we premiered our show Dear Human to a packed theater at The Museum of Modern Art in New York. The night was a dream come true. We had worked so hard on the show, and it was the culmination of a vision I had of combining film with live performance into something I call "Spoken Cinema." The show explored the past, present and future of our relationship between humanity and technology, and ended with the question, "What's it going to take for us to be more present with ourselves and the people around us?"
Then the world stopped. And this question became infinitely more potent.
We're now in development on a new original series we'll be taking to the market soon based on this Dear Human MoMA show and my book, 24/6: Giving Up Screens One Day a Week To Get Back More Time, Creativity and Connection.
If you've been wanting to try a weekly day away from screens, next weekend is the perfect time to do it. March 5 is National Day of Unplugging. We're kicking the weekend off with a very special ZoomChallahBake, featuring a fantastic lineup of teens who unplug weekly. All info below.
Below in this newsletter is a new COVID dispatch from my brother Dr. Jordan Shlain (he's also the driver in my 30sec mash up of a magical Yosemite firefall we saw last week that you can watch here), as well as lots of events, books, and things to inspire.
Love,
Tiffany

The above graphic shows success from vaccine trials, published by https://twitter.com/ashishkjha To date, over 230 million doses have been administered worldwide, and 65 Million in the US.
| |
| | |
Nearly a full year later, science has prevailed, bringing us vaccines, more clarity on treatments and a raft of new studies illuminating our blind spots. While our new administration is rightly focusing on the herculean logistical challenges of getting vaccines to everyone, I am getting impatient about the slow rollout of home testing and concerned that we will prematurely let our guard down and invite a fourth wave. It’s now clear as day that the massive third wave that brings our death total to over 500,000 people was due to deep-rooted, existential angst that most humans have when they are alone during the dark days of winter. Simply put, without sunlight, humans need social light.

ZoomChallahBake and National Day of Unplugging March 5
| |
Our last ZoomChallahBake for a while will take place on March 5 as part of the National Day of Unplugging, which marks my family's eleventh year of doing our Tech Shabbats. If you are thinking of trying turning off screens one day a week to do wonders to your brain, body and soul, March 5 is a great time to start with people from all over the world. You can get my book 24/6 to get started. Then join us for the ZoomChallahBake which will feature teens from many different backgrounds who practice turning off screens regularly.
