Dear Members of the University Community,
We write with an update on our plans for instruction, work, and special events planned for Jan. 18-21. The Emergency Management Executive Team (EMET) met today to discuss current road conditions and weather forecasts. Based on our analysis, we have made the following determinations:
- On Jan. 18 and 19, we will hold in-person classes on campus, and employees are requested to report to campus based on their normal work hours. Faculty members who are unable to travel to campus should contact their department chairs for guidance. Those staff members who are unable to report to campus are required to use accrued leave time and should report/record the absence in accordance with standing reporting practices.
- Convocation on Jan. 19 will be held as planned. A forthcoming message from David Shipps will provide details about procedures related to Convocation.
- The 100 Years of Basketball celebration planned for this weekend, including the basketball games against Rhodes College, will be held as planned.
- The opening of Biehl Commons, scheduled for Jan. 20, is postponed. Further details will be provided when the event is rescheduled.
While the status of roads and sidewalks has improved greatly today and should improve more tomorrow, we encourage everyone to exercise caution when traveling to and across campus. Wear appropriate shoes and proceed carefully, especially on and near stairs.
Thanks, again, to all of those employees who have worked over the last few days to keep our limited operations open. Their efforts have kept our students fed and safe.
Please take care and stay safe.
Sincerely,
Scott Wilson
Acting Provost
