Hands-Free Ordinance Enforcement 
The City’s hands-free ordinance prohibits drivers from handling electronic communication devices while operating a vehicle. After a six-month educational period, enforcement of the ordinance will begin July 1. The goal, however, is safety and accountability to make roads safer for everyone in Huntsville.

Pinhook Creek PARC Update
Improvements along Pinhook Creek are expected to begin by the end of the year after the City entered into an agreement with the Federal Highway Administration and the Alabama Department of Transportation to receive $47.3 million in two federal grants for the Pedestrian Access and Redevelopment Corridor (PARC) project. Flood mitigation upgrades will also include a new greenway along Pinhook Creek as well as the pedestrian cable suspension bridge over Memorial Parkway.
Clinton Avenue Refresh
Clinton Avenue will get a refresh between Seminole Drive and Heart of Huntsville Drive/Woodson Street near Memorial Parkway. The City agreed to an engineering design contract with Barge Design Solutions for the traffic safety and pedestrian improvements.
Hispanic & Latino Town Hall
A great crowd turned out for an informative Hispanic and Latino town hall at McDonnell Elementary on June 2. Hosted by the City of Huntsville’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI), Council Member Kling joined Mayor Tommy Battle, ODEI Director Kenny Anderson and Police Chief Kirk Giles at the meeting along with Huntsville City Schools Board President Ryan Renaud. The event gave City leaders the opportunity to gain more insight into the issues and concerns of the Hispanic and Latino communities.
MPO Bike Plan Open House
The Huntsville Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) wants to hear your ideas and suggestions on shaping the MPO’s bike plan. The MPO will hold an open house Wednesday, July 24, from 4-7 p.m. at First Baptist Church (600 Governors Drive). Feedback can also be provided in an online survey and an interactive map. The plans aims to improve safety and connectivity.

Parks and Recreation Month
The national Parks and Recreation Month in July provides the opportunity to celebrate the City’s commitment to enhancing resident experiences through parks, greenways and recreation facilities. Each Tuesday in July, recreation centers in Huntsville will hold open houses from 6-7 p.m. and everyone is invited to visit the centers and learn more about the available programs and features. In District 4, there are four recreation and community centers:
  • Brahan Spring Recreation Center (3370 Ivy Ave.)
  • Fern Bell Recreation Center (107A Sanders Rd.)
  • Jaycee Building (2180 Airport Rd.)
  • Raymond W. Jones Community Center (2020 Steve Hettinger Dr.)

Merrimack Village Community Cleanup

Meet at Jim Merak Park at 3317 Clopton Street SW and bring a friend. Additional parking will be available at St. Paul Methodist Church, 3250 Dunn Drive.
Public Office Hours
Join Council Member Kling for his public office hours on Monday, July 15, at 6 p.m. at the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library main branch at 915 Monroe St. It’s an opportunity for residents to share their ideas about how to make Huntsville the best it can be.
