LAW
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) promotes collaboration and "team" treatment of patients. TMA agrees collaborate care is important, but the association wants to ensure its physicians remain the head of the team.  One proposed bill would allow Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) and Physicians' Assistants (PAs) to sign birth certificates, death certificates, and disability papers, among other medical documents previously reserved for physician approval. Another bill would allow Physical Therapists (PTs) to practice without referral from a physician, and yet another bill would allow APRNs to practice independently. TMA members will comment on the bills and their consequences on the practice of medicine. The article will highlight TMA's efforts to advocate for physicians at the Legislature.
