Opportunities for understanding
The month of June provides two important opportunities to engage in conversation and understanding of race, gender identity and sexual orientation. That is because June is a time when we celebrate Pride Month, which marks the anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising, and Juneteenth (June 19), the commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States.
Since last year, many organizations have declared Juneteenth a holiday. We encourage everyone to take this time to remember, honor and raise awareness of issues facing marginalized communities, and to understand the actions needed to heal and make meaningful changes..
