Ash Torgerson Knows Safety is the Foundation of PDX
Ash Torgerson (she/her) with Relay Resources was nominated by her team.
"Ash Torgerson deserves recognition for demonstrating strong safety awareness and leadership. While working on the Relay Resources floor care team one evening, Ash observed a motorized golf cart entering a pedestrian pathway adjacent to the north loading dock.
Recognizing the potential safety hazard, she took immediate action by documenting the issue with a photo, engaging the driver to communicate the concern, and promptly reporting the incident to PDX Airport Operations. As a direct result of Ash’s proactive response, we conducted outreach with the driver and will be installing signage to reinforce that this area is designated for pedestrians only.
Ash’s quick thinking and commitment to safety exemplify the standards we strive for at PDX, helping to create a safer environment for all employees. Thank you, Ash, for leading by example!"

Government Shutdown: What You Need to Know
While the government shutdown is still underway, we haven't seen major travel impacts at PDX.
To help keep daily airport operations running smoothly, Federal Aviation Administration air traffic controllers and TSA and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CPB) agents are designated as essential workers and will continue to work through the shutdown. We’re closely monitoring the situation and remain committed to ensuring safe, reliable travel for everyone.
As always, we recommend travelers arrive with plenty of time to check in and move through security. They can find the latest airline schedules and real-time security wait times at flypdx.com.
In an effort to care for our federal colleagues working without pay, concessions operators at The Country Cat, Sizzle Pie, and Jamba are offering a 30% discount (excluding alcohol and PDX employee meal deals) to uniformed federal employees for the duration of the shutdown. Employees should present their PDX security badge and request the federal employee discount. If other concessions would like to join in offering discounts, please contact Shannon McArthur. We’ll continue to look for more ways to support the airport community in the days to come.

Spread the Word: PDX 2045 Open House
Do you know folks who'd like to learn about and provide feedback on the master plan update for PDX? Invite them to our PDX 2045 Open House on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at the University of Oregon's NE Portland Campus from 5 to 8 p.m.
The open house is a drop-in opportunity where attendees can learn about the project, chat with the team, and provide input that will help shape how our airport grows. The event will include brief presentations at 6 and 7 p.m. and information stations where guests can learn about planning options for the airfield, terminal, parking, passenger pick-up and drop-off spaces, and more. If someone you know has thoughts on what the Port should consider as we accommodate expected growth over the next 20 years, they can get all the details on the PDX 2045 website.

PDX Community Solar Provides Renewable Energy to Lower-Income Neighbors and Airport
Built on Port of Portland property, this project is a smart use of space and shared purpose. With Verde connecting the community, Bonneville Environmental Foundation leading the solar know-how, and the Portland Clean Energy Fund making it all possible, it’s a true collaboration. Together, we turned three acres into a power source that lowers bills, supports local jobs, and lights up homes in the Cully neighborhood and Dignity Village. It’s the largest community solar project in the city – with more to come. A shared investment in our future. And a reminder that when Portland works together, we build something brighter.
