Fourth Quarter Inspiration
With the Matrix North American headquarters based on the outskirts of Madison, Wisconsin, I’ve become quite familiar with a tradition that takes place at the University of Wisconsin football games. When “Jump Around” is played at the beginning of the fourth quarter, the stands erupt, the stadium shakes and thousands of fans do as the song instructs by jumping around. This ritual is so popular that it was voted the winner of the 2012 Sports Illustrated (SI.com) College Football Traditions.
Here at Matrix, we take inspiration from UW and get pumped up over the fourth quarter of our business year – and maybe a few of us even jump around a bit in preparation. Our excitement is due to the fact that Matrix just completed a record Q3 in sales, with double digit growth over last year, and the fourth quarter historically produces the highest sales volume of any quarter.
This won’t be a surprise to anyone in the industry because new equipment demand starts with the fitness facility’s needs. According to an IHRSA Industry Data Survey, Q4 has historically been the second strongest quarter in terms of membership accounts added; Q1 being the strongest. What better time to pump up for membership sales by refreshing equipment or opening new facilities?
What are you doing at your club or facility to get your staff inspired and prepped for the busiest months of the year? If any of your plans involve new fitness equipment, look no further than the fastest growing commercial fitness brand in the world: Matrix.

Kranking Updates
FIITWERX Integration
The Johnny G Krankcycle® by Matrix continues to gain momentum as the standard in upper body cardio and strength training in full service health clubs and small group training facilities like Denver’s FIITWERX program. FIITWERX co-owner and Kranking Master Trainer Brad Cooley has made Kranking an essential component in his unique training program that follows a high intensity interval training (HIIT) format for maximum muscle activation and development, and yields an extraordinary caloric expenditure.
Component to Rehabilitation
As powerful a training tool as the Krankcycle is, it’s also been effective in the rehabilitative phase of spinal cord injury treatment. Facilities like Craig Hospital in Colorado have incorporated Kranking as a component for maintaining strength and neuromuscular connection. Six-time Olympic Medalist Amy Van Dyken-Rouen was recently featured on NBC’s Today Show (using a Krankcycle,) giving great credit to the care and treatment she received at Craig Hospital following an accident that severed her spinal cord.
Kranking @ CAF 2014
The inspiration for the Krankcycle came about in 2002 with Johnny G’s firsthand experience with Challenged Athletes at the CAF Tour de Cove fundraiser. Just over a week ago the CAF Triathlon Challenge celebrated its 22nd year as the major fundraiser for the organization. The Kranking team, once again, was front and center in support of this special event featuring a fully inclusive four-and-a-half hour Spin/Krank-a-thon!
