Jan and Tim Misley are Wedded to Exceptional Customer Service |
|
|
Jan and Tim Misley with the PDX Volunteer Information Program were nominated by a PDX traveler.
"When I got to baggage claim, I realized I had left my phone in the bathroom near my gate. I needed it to get home and was already exhausted after a long flight with another flight the next morning.
I went to the PDX Information Booth and asked Tim what I could do. Tim immediately went into action to figure out which bathroom I had likely used. He said another volunteer in that part of the airport – who happened to be his wife Jan – would check to see if my phone was still there.
Jan was outstanding! She checked two bathrooms and when she didn't find the phone, she asked the cleaning staff if they had found one. They had and they placed it in the Lost and Found bin. Tim contacted the Lost and Found staff, who retrieved it and brought it all the way to me in baggage claim.
I was never made to feel stupid or careless; they were kind and caring the entire time. PDX is lucky to have such outstanding people working at the airport. Thank you."

New Seating Area: Have you been wondering what will happen to the area near stadium stairs now that the Concourse Connector is no longer an exit? Wonder no more: It’s now Observation Commons, an additional seating area where meeter-greeters can wait for passengers, passengers can pause pre-security, and plane spotters can admire the action in the alley under the light of a stunning new chandelier.

PDX Customer Service:
Familiar Faces, New ‘Fits |
|
|
You may have spotted PDX People you know wearing brand new uniforms. That’s because a new company, VIP Hospitality, officially took over customer service support at the airport on Sept. 1. You should recognize the folks helping with questions – they’re staying the same – but they’re now wearing light blue shirts and navy blue branded vests. Note that VIP Hospitality is different from our PDX VIP program – those volunteers will continue to wear royal blue. No matter who you ask or what color they’re wearing, there’s one thing for certain…you’re guaranteed a helpful and knowledgeable response

Be Knowledgeable: Employee Screening Coming Soon |
|
|
|
|
At PDX, safety and security guide everything we do. To strengthen this commitment, we're implementing employee screening – a proactive approach to managing risks at PDX. With employee screening, our goal is to go beyond compliance and build a strong, collaborative security culture that protects everyone who works at or travels through PDX.
What does this mean for you?
For the majority of employees, it means that instead of accessing the

secure areas of the airport through bypass doors, you will go through a quick screening process in a dedicated employee screening area.
What's the screening process like?
Swipe your badge, place bulky items or bags in a bin for X-ray screening, then walk through the scanner. No need to remove shoes, belts, or outerwear, and no stopping or raising your arms. There will be staff at the screening areas to guide the process, just like at the TSA checkpoints.
Employee screening starts in early 2027. As we get closer, we’re sharing answers to common questions and keeping you in the loop. Check out the FAQ now and if you don’t see what you’re looking for, let us know.

In case you missed it, last week the FAA replaced the surface radar with a new system – the old dome came down first, then the new radar was installed. Dave Stanton with the Port of Portland shared this impressive photo of the process.
