It's Back to School and Early Learning!
Our two early learning centers, at Windy's Preschool at 429 Tattnall Street, and at W.W. Law at 909 E. Bolton Street, both started their back to school programs this past week. These programs, which provide early childhood care and an accredited and Georgia Quality-Rated Pre-K are still enrolling children for the Winter/Spring semester.  Our learning objectives focus on social-emotional development, language development, improvement in cognitive learning skills, introduction to math skills, improvement in literacy and introduction to the arts, among others.   These programs are on a sliding scale, meaning they are available to all children and families, regardless of income. To enroll your child, call our Early Learning Centers at Windy's Preschool at 912-234-0575 or at W.W. Law at 912-233-5230. You can also call our Program Director, Kalessa Edgerson at (912) 234-3431 or email her at kedgerson@greenbriarchildrenscenter.org

Quality Rated Child Care
New Year, New Dreams

It's important that children and families are able to look forward to the New Year ahead. According to an article from QualityCareforChildren.org, creating vision boards can help children of all ages learn about setting and working towards goals and can also help them to be imaginative, playful, mindful, intentional and optimistic (it helps adults too!)  If you have never made one, a vision board is simply a collage of pictures, drawings or even quotes or sayings which can help you to visualize what you would like to accomplish in the year ahead. You can use old magazines to cut out pictures and utilize a poster board or blank piece of paper as the background. You can even tape your vision board to a wall!   Both caregivers/parents and chldren can design their own. Here are some tips:
1 ) Explain to your child what a Vision Board is-a collage of pictures, quotes and sayings that help you to visualize your dreams for the year ahead.
2) Talk with your child about goal setting and their dreams. An example of a picture on a child's vision board could be a picture of a park or a green scene.  Going to a local park for a weekly walk could be an attainment of this particular goal.
3) Help your child to design their board but do not dictate goals to your child for their vision board.
4) Keep it fun for your children and you.
5) Periodically have your children look on their vision board to see how they are progressing toward their goal.  This is a good, inexpensive activity, and especially useful for times when it is too chilly, or rainy, to play outside.
Happy Vision Boarding!

      Spotlight on Staff

Beginning this month,  we are adding a "Staff Spotlight" to our monthly e-news to help our readers get to know some of our team a bit better. This month, we are shining the light on Mrs. Regina Brewton, who shares her own bright light with the children in her care at Windy's Preschool, one of Greenbriar's two early childhood learning centers. Here are some questions (Q's) we asked her and her answers (A's)  when she had a few moments to herself (which are rare!)
Question: How long have you been at Greenbriar?  A: 30 years!
Q: What do you like most about the Early Childhood program? A: I love children. I love to see how they learn and grow and the personality each brings!
Q: What keeps you coming back? A: The children.
Q: What do you wish everyone knew about  Greenbriar that they may not know? A: The staff at the preschool has more than 130 years combined experience of nurturing children and strengthening families.
Q: What do you like to do in your spare time? A: I attend Church, and I enjoy watching Lifetime movies and going out to eat!

Below is our wonderful Mrs. Brewton, at "home" at Windy's Preschool.
