Dear Graduate Students:

As many of you know, effective September 1, 2021, benefits-eligible graduate student employees with appointments of 20-29 hours per week will be auto-enrolled in Academic Blue (SHIP), which will be provided to them at no cost. Academic Blue (SHIP) is administered by BlueCross BlueShield, and as an added benefit it pays for 100% of all covered costs at University Health Services (UHS).

If you are new to the university or haven’t used UHS services before, we wanted to tell you a bit about us. The scope and quality of services that we provide is likely pretty different from your previous academic institution, as we are not a typical college or university health center!

UHS is among the 11% of student health centers in the United States that are accredited either by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care or the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Few primary care doctor’s offices in Austin have that distinction.
The high-quality medical facility is staffed by licensed professionals including physician assistants, nurse practioners and board-certified physicians practicing in the areas of family medicine, internal medicine, sports medicine and women’s health.
One-quarter of UHS patients are graduate students. We have accepted both Academic Blue (SHIP) and UT Select for our graduate students for years. UHS is well-equipped to meet your healthcare needs.
