NCORE 2022: Check In & Preparation
The National Conference on Race and Ethnicity (NCORE) 2022 is being held May 31st – June 4th in Portland, Oregon! NCORE is a forum for discussion and critical dialogue about race, ethnicity, and its intersections in higher education. Texas A&M’s Office for Diversity is hosting NCORE 2022: Check In & Preparation. The session is being held on Zoom to include our colleagues across Texas A&M and University of Oklahoma. The purpose of the NCORE 2022 session is to learn more about what to expect from NCORE 2022 and to network with Texas A&M colleagues who are attending NCORE. ADVANCING CAMPUS CLIMATE AND ACCOUNTABILITYSustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS®)
Texas A&M's Office of Sustainability recognized the Office for Diversity with a 2021 Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System™(STARS®) Overall Top Performer award. STARS® is a transparent, self-reporting framework, used by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE), for colleges and universities to measure their sustainability performance. The Office of Sustainability leads and coordinates Texas A&M's annual STARS® report and holds the annual Sustainability Breakfast to recognize campus partners and leaders advancing sustainability.
The Office of Sustainability recognizes individuals and teams of students, faculty, and staff who have demonstrated exemplary effort, dedication, and leadership throughout the year to foster a campus culture of sustainability. The Overall Top Performer is awarded to the department with multiple credits who achieved the highest cumulative point total from their respective STARS credits. Dr. Jennifer Reyes, assistant vice president in the Office for Diversity, was recognized as a 2021 STARS® 100 recipient, for her work in Assessing Diversity & Equity, Support for Underrepresented Groups, and Diversity & Equity Recognition.

ADVANCING CAMPUS CLIMATE AND ACCESSIBILITY
Providing Access in Student Organizations and Activities
Join the Center on Disability and Development (CDD) for their “Accessibility in Aggieland” webinar series. The purpose of this series is to promote proactive accessibility through inclusive practices and educate the campus community on the many different instructional settings where accessibility is important.
The May 18, 2022 session, Providing Access in Student Organizations and Activities, will feature Tracey Forman, Assistant Director of Disability Resources at Texas A&M University. The webinar will include strategies and resources for student leaders and advisors to consider when planning activities and programs that are facilitated by student organizations. The webinars are held via zoom and recorded as well as stored on the Center on Disability and Development website.

CONNECTING THOSE ADVANCING ACCOUNTABILITYMoving the Needle Towards a Diverse and Inclusive Student Population
Damon Slaydon, Vice President for Human Resources and Organizational Effectiveness (HROE), presented updates and reviews of the new actions taking place to enhance engagement and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) for Texas A&M University’s faculty and staff. These actions are developed to increase diversity of faculty at all ranks, expand recruitment of frontline staff from underrepresented groups, and foster a climate of respect and inclusivity for all faculty and staff at Texas A&M University.

PRODUCING OUTSTANDING SCHOLARSHIPMarketing Toward Equity: Trends, Tools, and Critical Considerations for University Communicators
Staff and faculty from Texas A&M's Office for Diversity (OFD) and Sam Houston State University's (SHSU) Department of Educational Leadership are presenting “Marketing Toward Equity: Trends, Tools, and Critical Consideration for University Communicators” at the 2022 National Conference on Race and Ethnicity (NCORE). The collaborators are: Crystal Spruill Carter, OFD communications specialist; Dr. Jennifer McGee Reyes, assistant vice president for diversity; Lawren Walker, OFD student assistant; and Dr. Paul Eaton, associate professor from SHSU.
The session will give an opportunity for participants to evaluate their communication and marketing practices with a diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice lens, including examining university history, geographic location, student demographics, strategic plans, staffing patterns, faculty demographics, and other considerations necessary for honestly assessing one's current strengths and challenges related to equitable and inclusive marketing. The major outcome for the session is for participants to have tools to approach and coordinate marketing and communications through a diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice lens.

Texas A&M has issued COVID-19 guidance to enhance the safety of those returning to campus. Free testing is available for all students, faculty, and staff who have symptoms or have been in close contact with known or suspected cases. The tests provided through this program are mouth swab tests that do not require assistance. More information can be found at the Student Health Services website.
