Note from the Dean: A Golden Year
After a year-long whirlwind of
50th anniversary travel, this holiday season I found myself strolling the quiet Owen lobby and reflecting on the year. The twenty alumni celebrations from Shanghai to Charlotte were meaningful and attracted over 1200 participants. They showed the growth of Owen’s global alumni and the value of telling our story. At each event, I thanked those gathered for coming out, because building the alumni network, city by city around the world, is critical to our success as a school.
The global turnout certainly highlighted the progress we have made. We should never stop gathering, networking, and helping the next generation of alumni build their careers. An extensive, collaborative community is one of the most powerful attributes of a top business school and something that provides life-long benefit to all alumni.
However, as I lean into 2020, the career advice of Cindy Kent is also echoing in my ear. She cautioned that activity itself can sometimes be confused with progress. Great advice for Owen and something to consider when you are making your New Year’s resolution.
