"Talking Coyote" at Dudley Park
Are you Coyote curious?
Learn more about your wild neighbors and get all those questions answered at Talking Coyote in Dudley Park scheduled for Friday, May 10 from 6:00 - 7:15 p.m. This free program is open to all ages, however, children must be accompanied by an adult. Online registration is underway.
Coyote researchers will cover a wide range of coyote topics about this mysterious urban predator, including how to keep your family and pets safe.

2024 Snake Day
Enjoy all that slithers at the 2024 Snake Day at Sandy Creek Nature Center. This family friendly event is set for Saturday, May 11 from noon to 4:00 p.m.
This event is for ages 3 and older. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The fee is $5 per person.

Walker Park Splash Pad Opens May 11
The Leisure Services Department announces the splash pad at Walker Park will open under its pre-season hours on Saturday, May 11 from 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.
The Walker Park Splash Pad, located at 200 Trail Creek St, will be open weekends only, Saturday, May 11 -Sunday, May 19 and will then operate under regular seasonal hours from Saturday, May 25 - Sunday, July 28 The splash pad will be open weekends only, August 3– September 2. Hours of operation are 10:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. The splash pad is closed on Mondays for maintenance.
The Rocksprings Park Splash Pad, located at 291 Henderson Ext, will open for the season May 25.
Splash pad admission is $1 per person. Pool passes are available for purchase and may be used at both splash pads and at all of the Department’s four public pools. The Bishop Park pool remains closed for the 2024 aquatics season. Individual pool passes are $20 and Family of Four pool passes are $40. Passes may be purchased onsite with forms of payment accepted including cash and check.

Good Grades = Free Pool Passes
Making the grade at the swimming pool!
The Leisure Services Department continues a special summer program celebrating students with good grades.
In order to be eligible, any student, Kindergarten through 12th grade, who resides in Athens-Clarke County must take a copy of the student’s final report card or equivalent to a Leisure Services facility office where a pool or splash pad is located. Those sites include Heard Park, Lay Park, Memorial Park, Rocksprings Park and Walker Park. The Bishop Park pool remains closed for the 2024 aquatics season.
A report card with all A's or all E's guarantees a free summer pool pass. A report card with all A's and B's, or all E's and M's, is good for 10 free swims.

Pools Open Memorial Day Weekend
All ACCGov Leisure Services pools open Saturday, May 25 for the season. Memorial Day pool hours are 1:00 – 5:30 p.m. Pools close for the season Sunday, July 28.
The Department will operate four public pools this summer including Heard Park at 400 McKinley Drive; Lay Park at 297 Hoyt Street; Memorial Park at 293 Gran Ellen Drive; and Rocksprings Park at 291 Henderson Extension. The Bishop Park pool is closed for renovations.
During the aquatics season, pools are open Tuesday-Friday and Sundays, 1:00 – 5:30 p.m. Pool hours are noon – 5:30 p.m. on Saturdays. All pools and splash pads are closed on Mondays for maintenance.

Local Art!
The Lyndon House Arts Foundation and Lyndon House Arts Center will present Art Mart, a fine art and craft market, on Saturday, May 11 from 10:00 am to 5:00 p.m.
More than sixty-five vendors of fine arts and fine crafts are represented with unique goods available for purchase including fabric art, folk art, jewelry, paintings, pottery, prints, sculpture, wood, and more. Shop for unique gifts perfect for celebrating Mother’s Day, graduations, and other special days.
The artist vendors retain 100% of all sales. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

"Secret Creek Adventure" at the Nature Center
Take the path less traveled by to a special creek. Splash in the cooling waters of a little stream on a guided creek walk at Sandy Creek Nature Center.
Participants will discover the rocks, plants and tiny creatures that call this hidden gem home. Bring water, wear sturdy shoes for walking and bring an extra pair for the creek such as swim shoes, crocks, or action sandals.
This program is for ages 8 and older and is set for Saturday, May 18 at 11:00 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Bring a water bottle and wear shoes for hiking and bring water shoes for the creek walk.
The fee is $5 ACC resident and $7.50 Non-resident. Online registration is required.

"Movies by Moonlight" at Bishop Park
The Leisure Services Department will host a free “Movies by Moonlight” outdoor movie event on Friday, May 17 at 8:45 p.m. at Bishop Park at 705 Sunset Drive.
The event features the 2023 film “Paw Patrol- The Mighty Movie.”
The evening begins at 7:00 p.m. with “Touch a Truck.” This area including a variety of vehicles to explore representing the ACCGov Fire, Solid Waste, and Police Departments including a K-9 officer. The Athens Pop up Park will be onsite, as well. Athens-Clarke County Library staff will lead a craft activity and story time.
Registration is not required. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets and will sit on the ground to watch the film on the large inflatable screen. Food and beverages will not be sold or provided at the park. Restrooms and water fountains will be available until the end of the screening.
All park rules will be enforced, including; dogs always on leash, no alcohol, no smoking, and no grills/cooking.

"Grand Slam" at Lay Park
Grand Slam is a summer program, exclusively for Athens-Clarke County Middle and High School students.
Join us for an evening of games, giveaways, guest speakers, life enrichment activities, music, refreshments, sports, and more.
This free teen program takes place Fridays, May 31 - July 19 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
