Dear Student,

Tomorrow, March 12, Miami University will be releasing the Course List for Fall 2021. As you will see when you begin looking through the list, we are planning for the vast majority of courses to be offered in person. Our leadership team is aware that there are a number of concerns from our international students about your ability to return to the United States for fall semester due to travel restrictions, consulate closures or backlogs, and concerns about COVID-19. We value the members of the Miami University community who are international and are doing everything within our power to support you. Our federal officials are predicting that all adults in the US (including international students) will be able to be vaccinated by this summer.

Regarding travel restrictions and visa concerns, we are hopeful that the situation will improve by this summer in light of both the increased vaccination rates and a new presidential administration in the US that is committed to improving global relationships and welcoming international students. We believe that consulates will likely open up by late spring and that student visa applicants will be given priority over other travelers.

We hope to see you back on campus this Fall and remain committed to doing everything in our power to assist you. I strongly encourage you to consult with your divisional academic advisor to discuss what courses you should take in Fall 2021 to continue making progress toward your degree. You are also encouraged to consult with ISSS advisors about your visa and I-20 to make sure you have the documents needed to return to the US. Our advisors and student support professionals will help you as best they can.

For Love and Honor,
Provost Jason Osborne
