What You Need to Know

  • The UO Monitoring and Assessment Program continues to offer free COVID-19 testing this month. All asymptomatic members of the UO community and residents of Lane County are invited to participate in the screenings. Parents or legal guardians may register minors who are at least 3 years of age and under age 15 to be tested. Register for a COVID-19 test.

  • We will only send the UO COVID-19 Update on Mondays during winter break, unless there is urgent information to share. The Coronavirus website and cases web page will continue to be updated on weekdays.

How and when will the university offer vaccinations to students and staff?
The Oregon Health Authority, in coordination with the CDC, is managing distribution of the COVID-19 vaccinations across the state. The university is staying in close coordination with county and state health officials and will be in a position to support vaccination efforts when asked. It is not yet known when the vaccine will be available to students and staff.

COVID-19 Cases

  • There were 17 members of the UO community who tested positive or were considered presumptive positive in the last seven days (December 7-13) as of 10:00 a.m. today. A total of 673 members of the UO community have tested positive for COVID-19 since reporting began. Information about known cases within the UO community is updated by 10:00 a.m. weekdays.

  • The Oregon Health Authority reports 95,010 confirmed and presumptive COVID-19 cases in the state, 5,629 cases in Lane County, 21,560 in Multnomah County, and 589 in Coos County as of December 14, 2020.

Reminders

  • Provost Patrick Phillips thanked faculty and instructors for their efforts this term and reminded them about winter term courses, grading options and expectations in a message sent last week

  • UO students can opt in to UOPD’s vacation watch program this winter break to have officers do regular patrol checks on their off-campus homes. 

  • The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to the virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention outline some general precautions to minimize the spread of respiratory diseases.

Researchers in the UO’s Prevention Science Institute have received a two-year, $1.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to fund expanded COVID-19 testing at syringe exchange sites.
