FREE ASAM Training
August 16 with no cost to TN Providers.
On March 31st, 2016, the CDC director Dr. Tom Frieden noted that since 1999, there have been more than 500,000 overdose deaths in the United States. More Americans have died from overdoses than in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War combined! Nearly everyone is aware of the opioid epidemic in Tennessee, but talking about solutions is not enough. I have been asked many times about what medicine is doing to help address the treatment needs of our opioid-addicted patients. The sad reality is the majority of patients who want help simply cannot find a provider willing to see them. Our understanding of addiction as a primary brain disease has improved dramatically over the past two decades, but we are still lacking a sufficient number of trained providers capable of managing these complex patients. The American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and Tennessee Initiative for Perinatal Quality Care (TIPQC) are providing a CME course that will qualify physicians to obtain their buprenorphine prescribing waiver and begin treating opioid-addicted patients in an office-based setting with FDA-approved medications for opioid addiction. Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants can qualify for the waiver after completing an additional 16 hours provided by ASAM.
The class will be live in Chattanooga, with remote locations in Nashville, Memphis, Johnson City and Knoxville. This is a 4 hour online and 4 hour in person training. All costs are being paid for by TIPQC. This is a one time opportunity. Please register today!
