Michele Martin appointed executive director of the Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society

The University of Notre Dame’s Lucy Family Institute for Data & Society has appointed Michele M. Martin ’88,’90 M.A. as executive director.
In this role, Martin oversees external partnerships and works to bolster the growth of the Institute’s initiatives. She will be responsible for implementing the Institute’s strategy, mission, and goals and fostering communication and collaboration with partner units and research programs across campus.
“Michele brings extensive experience in directing innovation strategy to the Lucy Family Institute,” said Nitesh Chawla, Institute director and Frank M. Freimann Professor of Computer Science and Engineering. “Her dedication to supporting the Health Equity Data Lab immediately stood out as a testament to her commitment to inclusive and responsible data and AI research for the common good. Over the past year, I’ve enjoyed getting to know Michele and am thrilled to welcome her to the Lucy team.”

Usama Fayyad is the inaugural executive director of the Institute for Experiential AI at Northeastern University and professor of the practice at Khoury College of Computer Sciences. He is Chairman of Open Insights, a technology and consulting firm he founded in 2008 after leaving Yahoo! to help enterprises deploy Data-driven solutions to grow revenue from AI and Data assets.
