Joint Statement on the White House's Retention of LGBT+ Protection

NGLCC, Out Leadership & Freedom For All Americans

The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC), along with our coalition partners Out Leadership and Freedom for All Americans, is glad the Trump administration has decided to be “respectful & supportive of LGBTQ rights” by maintaining critical LGBT+ workplace protections for federal contractors. Business has long understood that protecting LGBT+ Americans is good for business, essential for creating a vibrant, competitive workforce, and a fundamental principle of a strong and resilient economy.  As NGLCC’s report “America’s LGBT Economy” shows, the $1.7 trillion worth of economic impact and tens of thousands of jobs created by LGBT-owned businesses benefit everyone in our country.

Non-Profit Spotlight

Bailey House

In response to the AIDS Crisis of the early 1980s, a small group united to form a much-needed service to the community facing AIDS. The model they created to house those affected by AIDS has been adapted internationally. Thirty-four years later Bailey House is still going strong. The team has piloted and launched programs and services such as Project FIRST (Formerly Incarcerated Rental Support and Training) which helps individuals recently released from prison reacclimate to their community.

Why I'm Coming Out Now

Elisa Padilla of the Brooklyn Nets

The Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Elisa Padilla, of the Brooklyn Nets tells us the very personal reasons she wanted to establish the team's Pride Night.
"To understand why I’m writing this now, I need to begin with my foundation. I was raised as one of six children in a traditional Puerto Rican household in inner-city Newark, N.J. My brother played basketball in high school, and some of my fondest memories with my family are from outings we’d take to go see him play. This was when I fell in love for the first time — with the sport of basketball."

Protecting the LGBTQ Community

NYLAG

In 2008 NYLAG’s LGBTQ Law Project was founded to protect and expand the rights of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) community and to provide services that meet the unique legal needs of low-income LGBTQ New Yorkers. LGBTQ communities, especially those of color, transgender and gender non-conforming individuals and youth, are at greater risk of living in poverty and of being targeted for violence.
