The spring semester brings plenty of opportunities to explore the New Bund Campus and the surrounding Qiantan neighborhood. • NYU Shanghai’s Office of Global Awards reflects on a decade of student achievement in their publication, A Thousand Miles: Global Awards at Ten Years, which celebrates the many students who have dared to turn their questions into research and energies into action. Learn more about NYU Shanghai’s high-achieving alumni and scholars who over the years have pursued goals from women’s leadership to rural economic development; media literacy to mathematics; urban studies to aerospace engineering; neural science to history; human-computer interaction, film preservation, and much more. 

• NYU Shanghai Reads organized “Caffeinated Conversations” with students and Professor Erica Mukherjee to discuss The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating at Tsutaya Bookstore on Saturday, February 18. They discussed evolution, the Anthropocene, and relationships between humans and non-human animals. The second “Caffeinated Conversations” will be held on Saturday, February 25 at Kubrick Bookstore, featuring another book chat with an NYU Shanghai professor. Students may RSVP here.

As we get ready to welcome students back to campus in-person next week, check out the newly finished facilities. 

In a piece in Wenhui Daily NYU Shanghai Chancellor Tong Shijun shared his concerns as an educator about artificial intelligence development. “We should study how to cultivate students' abilities and willingness in questioning, verification, and debugging under the background of new technical conditions and social needs,” said Tong. “[We should] study the connotation and possible limits of the goals to be achieved by this kind of training and question whether artificial intelligence technologies such as chat robots can truly become a helper and a step for education, rather than an opponent and obstacle for education.”
