Nebraska Legislature in Session - Bill to Support Culture Introduced
The Nebraska Legislature is now in session.
Over the past year we have worked with the Legislature and its Economic Development Taskforce to share the impact of the arts on economic development and community vitality.
To help continue this positive momentum, LB949 was introduced by Senator Joni Albrecht. This bill would allow cultural organizations to obtain lower-interest bond financing for capital projects. This type of financing is already available to private universities, nonprofit hospitals, and social service agencies in the state and is a tool available to cultural organizations in at least ten other states.
Other bills with an impact on the arts include:
LB944 is the appropriation bill introduced address revenue shortfalls in the second year of the state's biennium budget. The bill proposes reducing the Nebraska Arts Council's budget for their Aid to the Arts and Promotion and Development of the Arts programs by 2% each of the next two fiscal years.
LB1002 would create the Nebraska Film Office Fund.
