Community School Leaders

Northside Neighborhood House (NNH) has served the north shore community since 1924. In the last decade, NNH, in partnership with Red Bank High School and both city and district leadership, began exploring how to better serve school-age children and their families. By bringing their support expertise to a partnership with Red Bank High School, NNH was able to open the district’s first community school in 2016. Using schools as hubs, community schools bring educators, families, and community partners together to offer a range of opportunities, supports, and services to children, youth as well as their families and communities.
This model of providing wrap-around support through the school building has since expanded to the North River Learning Community: Hixson Middle and most recently, Soddy Daisy Middle. NNH continues to be a leader in the community school model working alongside district and county leadership to codify the Hamilton County way of doing community schools. Thanks to these efforts, we now have community schools in several other schools across the district working with additional partners to ensure this support to students and families.
Last week was Community Schools Coordinators Appreciation Week, and we are proud to give a big shout out to our Community Schools Coordinators at Hixson Middle, RaeKenya Walker, and Soddy Daisy Middle, Brody Scott for all they do to help our students succeed!

Celebrate Excellence

In celebration of the historic academic progress Hamilton County Schools made during the 2018-2019 school year, the month of September was declared “Celebrate Excellence Month” for teachers and staff! Throughout the month, local businesses and community organizations offered discounts, special experiences, giveaways, and more for Hamilton County Employees to reward them for their incredible accomplishments over the last school year.

Thank you to all of our partners for supporting our staff and remaining committed to public education!
