Welcome Our New Administrative Assistant,

Cerina Talley-Ragsdale!

What sparked your interest in worker health and safety?
My interest in worker health and safety comes from a desire to prevent harm and advocate for people who may not know their options. Helping others stay informed and protected feels like a meaningful way to make a difference.

What attracted you to Worksafe in particular
I was drawn to Worksafe because it aligns closely with my values around advocating for worker safety and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. I wanted a role where I could make a meaningful impact while upholding boundaries that support both my professional and personal well-being.

What do you do for fun?
I play Coed Softball through the season, on two different teams in the Bay Area :)

Worksafe has been collaborating with Legal Services for Prisoners with Children (LSPC) regarding a heat standard for the excluded Department of Corrections. Rachel and AnaStacia have written a blog on the intersection of rights for prisoners and workers rights to illuminate our position on the matter.

Filling vacancies at the severely understaffed Cal/OSHA continues to be a priority. Stephen wrote about it here.

Prisoners are among the most exploited workers. Cal/OSHA has a persistent problem with understaffing.
It's that time of year again! We're reaching out to all of the wonderful folks in our community, asking for you to join us in standing shoulder to shoulder with workers.

This isn't our first appeal, and it won't be our last, but it will be our briefest: please donate whatever feels good to you, and please spread the word to your loved ones that workers need their support!

GEO Case Featured in Bloomberg
If you've been keeping tabs on our work, you probably remember the GEO case we've been involved in for the past couple of years. The private prison company repeatedly neglected the health and safety of immigrant detainee workers, and Worksafe and the California Collaborative for Immigrant Justice (CCIJ) were recently able to secure official recognition of these workers by Cal/OSHA as protected under the state's worker rights laws. Cal/OSHA went so far as to release a statement asking the DOJ for temporary immigration relief for the workers involved until the case is resolved.
You can read more about it in the Bloomberg article.
