SCHOOL NOTES FROM MRS. WOODMAN
Dear Families and Friends,
This Tuesday at the 2nd annual Celebration for the Endowment for the Advancement of Catholic Schools, the diocese presented the Christ the Teacher Award to CKS music teacher, Mrs. Julie Schwarz. This award is presented to one teacher annually based on demonstrated characteristics of leadership, dedication, and commitment to Catholic schools; and implementation of a program that served the school and broader community. We are so proud of Mrs. Schwarz for this accomplishment!
Our local grocery stores have been generous in their donations to schools in the area. We want to take advantage of their programs that bring income to the school with no cost to you. Thank you to everyone who has linked their Kroger card to Christ the King for the Community Rewards Program this year! We earned $740.15 thanks to the 101 households that swiped their cards on our behalf in June, July, and August. If you haven’t linked your card yet, our new school code is IF966 and you can link your card at
www.krogercommunityrewards.com.
Publix has redesigned their Publix Partners program to link to your phone number so that you no longer have to keep up with a card. After Sept. 30 the swipe cards will not be used. To support Christ the King while you shop at Publix,
sign up for Publix Partners through your Publix.com account (if you don't already have one) and select your desired school. Then, enter your phone number at checkout each time you make an eligible purchase. I signed up this week and it was easy! There is an option to uncheck the box for receiving promotional materials. Last quarter we earned $75.59 from Publix. The more families that participate, the more we earn. These funds are used to help our student organizations like Student Council and NJHS, and other school programs.
This week I attended a Symposium on Catholic School Governance as part of my Emmaus Leadership Series, accompanied by school board members Pat Watson and Laura Thigpen. Other board members benefited from virtual participation here in Nashville. I am grateful to our school board members for their commitment to the success of our school. The directors of the Roche Center of Boston College plan highly relevant, quality experiences for the participants. Learning along with other Catholic leaders from around the country has been very enriching for me.
Remember that the students are out of school next Monday while teachers attend a professional development day for the diocese. They will be hearing presentations from experts regarding children affected by emotional and behavioral issues. Our seventh and eighth grade teachers will hear a presentation on the emotional effects of social media on students. Our teachers are lifelong learners!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Sherry Woodman
