Health Insurance and Immunization Form

All international students are required to enroll in the Miami University Aetna Student Health Plan if you choose to study in-person in the U.S. Exceptions to this requirement may be made for students who provide proof of one of the following:
  • full sponsorship by a government agency, which includes health insurance
  • comparable health insurance from your parent's or spouse's U.S. employer
If you would like to request a waiver, you must log in to InterLink and submit the Health Insurance Waiver Request under Other Student Services. Note that international students will not have the option to use the Aetna waiver portal online to be exempt from the Student Health Plan. Review the ISSS website for more information about health insurance.
If you will study outside the U.S. in Spring 2021, your health insurance will be waived after you submit your Spring 2021 Study Plan Confirmation via InterLink
All new students are required to submit an Immunization Form before registering for classes. Immunization forms can be downloaded from the Student Health Services Immunizations pageBe sure to review more information about US health care systems and Miami University’s immunization requirements carefully in Canvas.

Health and Wellness

Seeking and maintaining both physical and mental wellness are more important than many students realize, especially for international students. Managing stress, anxiety, and self-doubt; getting enough rest; staying physically and socially active; and not waiting too long to reach out for help will help you succeed at Miami. As you consider how you’ll manage your health and wellness at Miami, you may want to visit the Student Counseling Service, Student Health Service, and Student Wellness websites. You will also learn more about these offices in the orientation modules in Canvas.

Graduate Assistantship

If you were awarded a graduate assistantship from your department, you must follow the steps outlined in the email from Academic Personnel with your official assistantship offer letter. During international orientation, graduate assistants will be required to go to the Academic Personnel office (located in Roudebush Hall) and complete the I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification Form. Please review the Acceptable Documents list to ensure you bring appropriate work authorization documents with you to Academic Personnel.
Failing to accept your graduate assistantship offer or complete your I-9 form may result in your assistantship being withdrawn. If you have any questions about your graduate assistantship duties and responsibilities, please contact your graduate department.
