Welcome to Spring 2021!

ISSS welcomes a new decade and the start of another semester!

The U.S. government ushered in a new presidential administration this week, which we expect will bring changes regarding U.S. immigration and travel regulations. Read more about this in the Immigration Tip section and pay attention to emails from international@MiamiOH.edu for future updates that international students and scholars need to be aware of.

Students studying on campus this semester should review the arrival testing procedures and Healthy Together Guide. Reminder to have your testing verification card with you during the first week of classes. If you still need to complete a COVID-19 arrival test, please contact covidtesting@MiamiOH.edu directly.

All international students should have submitted the "Spring 2021 Study Plan Confirmation" via InterLink. If you haven't yet submitted this form yet, please do so before the start of classes on January 25. ISSS staff have begun reviewing these forms and will follow-up with students as necessary. Thanks for your patience as we work to approve all pending forms.

Also, a reminder of some valuable resources that are available to all Miami students wherever they may be currently studying:

ELL Writing Center (English writing consulting for multilingual students)
Center for Career Exploration and Student Success (career prepartion)

This interactive program will highlight the performing arts talents of our very own Miami students and will feature a performance by the Sones de Mexico Ensemble.

Monday, January 25 at 4:00pm (continuing on Mondays throughout the semester) - Student of Color Support Group

This group will be a drop-in support space that serves to increase connection, community, support, self-empowerment, and advocacy for students of color on the MU campus. Students will be able to join via WebEx. Please email Keziah Lyu, lyuk3@miamioh.edu, for the link.

Tuesday, January 26 - Planning for Study Abroad in the Near Future
Education Abroad advisors answer your questions about study and travel abroad in the 'new normal' of the COVID era.

Negative COVID-19 Test Required for Arrival to U.S.

Beginning Tuesday, January 26, travellers to the U.S. will need to get tested for COVID-19 no more than 3 days before traveling by air and show their negative result to the airline before boarding their flight. Review this new requirement as well as answers to frequently asked questions on the CDC website. This includes a recommendation from the CDC that travelers get tested again 3-5 days after travel AND self-quarantine for 7 days after travel.

An executive order signed by President Biden yesterday requires further assessment of CDC guidelines related to COVID-19 and international travel. ISSS will continue to keep you updated on any requirements or guidelines that affect our international students and scholars.

Be aware that COVID-related travel restrictions on entry to the U.S. from certain countries as still in place at this time.

For Spring 2021 and beyond, ISSS is seeking dedicated, creative and organized students to help with communications and marketing of programs that support and engage Miami's international population and the campus community.

Primary duties for the ISSS Student Associate include:

Creating posts and messages for WeChat, Instagram, and other ISSS social media
Assisting with production of weekly newsletter and other ISSS communication and marketing projects
Assisting with planning and implementation of ISSS programs and events
