Hello downtown friends,

Springtime is approaching and we're excited to share news of new growth within our organization and in our downtown. The Downtown Tucson Partnership (DTP) is excited to welcome three new employees to our team! We'd also like to welcome Dandelion Café and Bakery located in the El Presidio District. Downtown offers many opportunities to get outside and enjoy the beautiful spring weather like the Haiku Hike, Baja Beer Festival, Agave Heritage Festival, and much more.

New Staff Members Join DTP Team

The DTP welcomes Rebecca Minor and Abby Grijalva as new DTP Safety Ambassadors, as well as Jenny Knight, our new Marketing Specialist.

Flowers Add Pops of Color to Downtown Streets

DTP Ambassadors are busy planting a variety of annual flowers. DTP is responsible for maintaining over 200 city planters located on public sidewalks throughout downtown. Businesses participating in the Merchant Planter Program will also see new pops of color in their planters.

Stay Tuned For Our Haiku Hike Winners

The 20 winning entries will be announced on Monday, March 20, and will be displayed within planters located on Congress St. and Stone Ave. until June 1. Haiku entries are judged by Tucson's poet Laureate, TC Tolbert. Results will be available here on March 20.

Merchants Meeting Recap

A virtual Merchant Meeting was held last Wednesday, March 1 via Zoom Meetings. If you are a downtown business that was unable to make the meeting, watch and listen to the meeting recording by visiting the Merchants and Retail Council webpage.

Rio Nuevo Enables Las Vegas Chefs To Open New Restaurant at Funky Monk Space

The new restaurant and lounge will be called 350 Congress and promises to bring some of Chef Antonio Nunez's signature dishes and cocktails to Tucson. 350 Congress will occupy the Funky Monk space, the entrance to Downtown Tucson, while replacing it with open seating and a sit-down venue for music performances. Rio Nuevo voted unanimously to provide a grant of $150,000 to help accelerate the renovation. Read more in this 13 News article.

Agave Heritage Festival Seeking Partners

The Agave Heritage Festival invites your downtown restaurant to participate in this four-day celebration of “all things agave.” Offer a Sonoran-themed entrée and/or agave-based spirit cocktail in honor of the festival and your venue along with your offering(s) will be promoted through the festival and partner marketing. City of Tucson Offers Local Business Support

The City of Tucson Office of Economic Initiatives offers assistance and resources for small business owners. They are currently providing pro-bono consultations, one-on-one business support sessions, technical and website assistance, and much more! Click here to learn more.

REACH Pima Partnership Business Collaboration

REACH Pima Partnership is looking to work with local businesses to address smoke-free policies in workplaces. Collaborations include adopting a smoke-free policy or working to enhance any policies that may already be in place. If interested, businesses should fill out the Smoke-free survey.

Dandelion Café Now Open in El Presidio District

Located in a historic 1907 adobe duplex, the Dandelion Café and Bakery features indoor and outdoor seating, delicious treats, grab-and-go sandwiches and salads, charcuterie boards, and coffee beverages. The café is located at 200 N. Court Ave., on the grounds of the Presidio Museum. Read more in this Tucson Foodie article.

French Bakery Coming to Downtown Tucson

Le Macaron will soon open at 260 E. Congress Street downtown. "Macarons — often confused with macaroons, which are made with coconut — are made with almond flour, egg whites and sugar and are crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside." Read more in this Arizona Daily Star article.
