New Lesson Plans for Congress
|

The latest installation in our lesson plan collection is Start Here: Teaching High School Congressional Debate. The material can be used in the classroom or after school and features of mix of methods to keep students engaged. Our lesson plans have been graded an "A" by members year after year! Use them in full or borrow bits and pieces to supplement your existing material. This series was made possible by the Harold Keller Memorial Fund.

Intro to Coaching Public Forum
|
Our new NSDA Learn course covers the basics of coaching Public Forum, from round structure to strategy. Like all NSDA Learn courses, it's online, free, and self-paced! A certificate is available upon completion to be submitted for Professional Development credit. Upon completion of the course, coaches will be able to:

- Follow a round of PF and identify the different speeches, their purpose, and the strategy at play.
- Explain key terms and how they fit in to the structure of the event.
-
Implement strategies for success in coaching both in the classroom and at tournaments.
- Build on their initial understanding with additional resources to learn more.

Board of Directors » The NSDA Board of Directors is changing! In addition to appointed members, the NSDA Board of Directors will also appoint a minimum of four active NSDA coach members from active NSDA member schools. Two active NSDA coaches will be appointed in 2024, and those Board members will also serve on the CR Leadership Committee.

Nominate a Coach for the NSDA Hall of Fame
|
The highest honor for any high school speech and debate coach is election to the NSDA Hall of Fame. Each year, we seek nominations from member coaches like you! Individuals with 25 years of NSDA coach membership prior to the start of Nationals (e.g., a merit date of June 16, 1999, or earlier), or who are retired from coaching and teaching, are eligible. Submit a nomination by Thursday, February 1.

Understand Multicultural Competence with the MLA

As a coach, you have the unique opportunity to help make speech and debate the model for effective communication in multicultural spaces. The benefits of fostering diverse spaces, especially for our students, are immeasurable. But to achieve this, we need everyone on board. Register Your Team for the Last-Chance Qualifier

Unlock a second chance for your students at the NSDA Last-Chance Qualifier, presented by The Julia Burke Foundation. This online showdown, held April 25-27, is exclusively for NSDA members with no entry fee. For those who missed out on district qualifications, it's a golden opportunity to secure their spot at the 2024 National Tournament in Des Moines. Register by April 19 to give your students a chance to shine on the National Tournament stage.

Nominate a Group or Organization for the Advocating Equity Award

Are you part of a group or organization that creates, enhances, or advocates for equity in speech and debate? Do you know a group who fits that description? Nominate them for the Activating Equity Award!
Nominees are evaluated on their commitment to equity, service and social responsibility, mission alignment, and collaboration efforts. The winner receives $5,000 and recognition at Nationals!

Since our founding in 1925, we have enrolled nearly two million members in all 50 states. Many of these members have risen to the pinnacle of their respective fields, including Supreme Court justices, media visionaries, Academy Award winners, and more. These are just a few of the many prominent faces of the NSDA. Over the years, the faces may change, but our commitment to changing lives never wavers.
