Help Families Keep Their Medicaid Coverage
Changes to Medicaid eligibility and re-enrollment are coming in 2027. Providers play a key role in advising families about their coverage. Encourage families enrolled in Buckeye Health Plan, CareSource, Molina Healthcare, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Humana Health Horizons, AmeriHealth Caritas or UnitedHealthcare Community Plan to check their coverage status and make sure their contact information is up to date.
Families can update their information by:
- Visiting benefits.ohio.gov to log in or create an account
- Calling (800) 324-8680
- Visiting their local Job and Family Services office
Once their contact information is updated, remind families to watch for mail from their county Job and Family Services office. They may need to complete forms by the deadline to keep their health insurance. A conversation during a visit can help patients stay connected to the care and services they need!

Asthma Spacer Coverage: What Care Teams Need to Know
Ohio Medicaid currently covers up to two spacers every 365 days.
When prescribing spacers, ask families how many spacers or masks they need based on where the child spends time (home, school, childcare, caregiver homes, etc.). Educate families that additional spacers may still be available through an exception process if the pharmacy cannot fill the requested quantity.
Pharmacy Tip: If a pharmacy receives the message "Exceeds QTY per DAYS", they should contact the Gainwell Helpdesk at 1-833-491-0344 to request an override.
Helping families obtain the spacers they need supports proper inhaler technique and improves asthma management across all settings where children live, learn and play.

Expanding Preventive Oral Health Care for Children Across Rural Ohio
|
A new statewide partnership is working to make preventive oral health care more accessible to young children in rural communities.
The Ohio Department of Health, the Ohio Colleges of Medicine Government Resource Center, The Ohio State University College of Dentistry and Nationwide Children’s Hospital Partners For Kids are collaborating to integrate oral health services into primary care settings. This quality improvement initiative will support providers in delivering oral health assessments, fluoride varnish, silver diamine fluoride, patient education and referrals to dental visits – right in the primary care setting.
The initiative plans to recruit at least one participating practice in each of Ohio’s 73 rural counties over five years, with special attention to nine counties that lack a safety net dental clinic.
Do you think your practice may be a good fit? If you’re interested in participating, click the button below to sign up today.

Pharmacy and Prescribing Updates: |

|
Over-The-Counter (OTC) Medication Series: Did you know Medicaid and Gainwell cover many OTC medications?
An OTC medication can be purchased by a patient from a pharmacy without a prescription. All providers recommend a patient pick up a vitamin D supplement or a bottle of acetaminophen at some point, and now those OTC medications are covered for Ohio Medicaid patients.
It’s true! Even though OTCs can be obtained without a prescription, to be eligible for coverage; a prescription must be issued. Next time you ask Mom to get a vitamin D supplement, make sure you write a prescription. Check in with our next newsletter to learn more tips to get covered!
