The Center for Contemporary Art and Culture and the Hallie Ford School of Graduate Studies at PNCA are pleased to present
EMERGENCE, a group exhibition of new and recent works by all First Year MFA Graduate Candidates, on view January 31 - February 21 in the Atrium, 511 Gallery, 157 Gallery and B10 Gallery!
Join us from 5-6pm in the PNCA Atrium for a live performance series with mai ide x pcp + Kyoko Hasegawa + Steven Gosvener.

DJ Mami Miami dreams of nights spent hips swaying in international multi-story discotecas. These days, she gets dance floors moving in Portland, Oregon and beyond as one-part of Noche Libre, the Latinx DJ collective she co-founded in 2017. As the former co-host of a hybrid talk/music show on community radio station XRAY FM, DJ Mami Miami selected a wide variety of genres from Andean cumbias and hip-hop to 1960s oldies, 80’s new wave, and Puerto Rican punk rock. Ash Stone (she/they) is a queer latinx visual artist based in Portland, Oregon. Her work, driven by the transformative power of play, serves as a method of healing and self-discovery. Ash’s creative practice works in tandem with community building, collaboration, and advocacy for art and education accessibility.

Community Printmaking Event with Don't Shoot PDX!

Come celebrate the start of Black History Month with Don't Shoot Portland at PNCA! We welcome the public to join us for a Community Printmaking event honoring Black history and the ongoing fight for racial justice and human rights.
This is a family-friendly event where we will screenprint signs and posters for participants to take home! Every year, Don’t Shoot Portland partners with PNCA to invite the community to engage with the art of screen printing in support of Don't Shoot Portland's social justice work. Through collaborative printmaking events we build community, bridge local issues and make incredible protest art to show solidarity alongside one another

Each Spring the MFA First Year Exhibition is an opportunity for candidates across the Hallie Ford School of Graduate Studies to showcase their artistic development as they all approach the conclusion of their first year of graduate school.
All of these exhibiting artists, designers, craftspeople, activists, community builders, collaborators, writers and more are within the throws of fast-paced personal development with their skills, research and voice – a process of emergence for which the show is aptly named. I am struck by a collective pensiveness on identity from varied experiences and perspectives and a reverence towards the forces, stories, memories, and future influences that these works portray with tenacity and deep vulnerability. In a social moment of unfolding daily horrors and strife, this exhibition is a soft and loving reminder of the power, joy and healing forces that creativity and expression can bring into our shared world.
The CCAC welcomes all to view this exhibition and celebrate these visionaries in the Visual Studies and Print Media programs at this important moment in their art school experience. This annual show is a deep pleasure of mine to coordinate as it always reinvigorates my spirit and own drive to nurture continual exploration and emerging expressions; a gift I hope is also given to all viewers who come to enjoy the show.

ABOUT THE HALLIE FORD SCHOOL OF GRADUATE STUDIES
The MA and MFA programs of the Hallie Ford School of Graduate Studies at PNCA support the development of experimental, interdisciplinary, and collaborative creative practices through experiential learning, student-centered seminars, and one-on-one mentorship. Graduate study is individualized and self-directed, yet highly collaborative, and supported by a broad network of peers, faculty, visiting artists, writers, and scholars, as well as community partners.
For more than 100 years, the Pacific Northwest College of Art has served as a dynamic creative center for emerging artists, designers, and creators with an educational philosophy that emphasizes individualized curricula, independent inquiry, and cross-disciplinary exchange. Graduate programs within the Hallie Ford School of Graduate Studies at PNCA support students as they professionalize as artists, scholars, and cultural workers. Our students develop a broad range of skills, and a network of peers and mentors that support their work as they continue to evolve years after graduation.
