Life for Daniel Pietenpol ’93, P’24 over the last 30 years or so has been marked by a deep commitment to volunteerism and service. Whether he was working with legislators on key educational issues as part of the U.S. National Parent Teacher Association (PTA) or helping University of Puget Sound students just beginning their collegiate journey, Pietenpol’s desire to help others has been unyielding.
And to think, it all started with a food and safety committee.

Prints and paintings by Professor Emeritus Bill Colby, who died in 2019, will be available to purchase at an upcoming gallery sale in Seattle. The sale is open to the public on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 3, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at The Luther Room, located at 2414 31st Ave. W. in Seattle's Magnolia neighborhood. A portion of the proceeds will support the Bill Colby Art Scholarship at Puget Sound.

Students and faculty gathered under the grey whale skeleton in Harned Hall to participate in the 15th annual summer research dessert contest. Each treat had to relate to their summer research projects — from chocolate-dipped strawberry molecules to matcha and black sesame Zen Buddhist mandala cookies.
