On Wednesday, June 7, 2023, we hosted the Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening Ceremony for our newest special services program, LINK High School Transition Skills Center.
Positioned at Yakima Valley College, LINK allows students who are over the age of 18, but have not yet met the requirements for graduation, a new space to attend classes after they graduate and say goodbye to their peers in their home district.
This partnership with YVC gives our students a chance to advance to a college campus, connect with peers and feel a sense of pride as they prepare for their post high school future! We are so proud of our LINK program and LINK team!

We are excited to share that Shari Brink of the Selah School District has been selected as our ESD 105 Teacher of the Year for 2023!
Mrs. Brink helps students find their passion and then provides them with the support, resources and care they need to turn this passion into a profession. Mrs. Brink teaches family and consumer science courses, specifically focusing on offerings that prepare students to be our next generation of educators.
In a time when recruiting new teachers is becoming harder and harder, the work Mrs. Brink is doing daily in her program is paramount to the success of our public school system. Mrs. Brink inspires her students through her own dedication to the craft, but she doesn’t stop there. Mrs. Brink removes barriers to ensure her students are successful beyond the K-12 system. She has helped establish systems that provide her students with the opportunity to earn First Aid certification and paraeducator credits for free so that when they leave Selah High School, they have the experience and certifications needed to jump right into the local education workforce.
Mrs. Brink is a teacher, leader, mentor, advocate and friend to many. We are thrilled to recognize her with our 2023 Regional Teacher of the Year award. As our regional recipient, Mrs. Brink will advance to OSPI’s statewide Teacher of the Year competition. We invite you to join us in congratulating Mrs. Brink!!

We are excited to announce that Christopher Harris of the Selah School District has been selected as our ESD 105 Classified Employee of the Year for 2023!
Mr. Harris wears multiple hats in his day to day service to the Selah School District. As the Custodial Lead and Athletic Events Coordinator for Selah Middle School and Selah High School, he is responsible for ensuring that the building is ready for students and staff to thrive. But, this doesn’t adequately address all that this individual does or the impact that he has. Harris is known for his intuitive and proactive approach to ensuring that staff and students’ needs are being met.
Mr. Harris prioritizes making connections with EVERYONE! He cares deeply about his job, but more than anything else, he cares about people and it shows! The relationships he forms with students, his fellow employees and community members have a direct impact on the culture and climate of the Selah School District.
As our regional recipient, Mr. Harris will advance to the statewide Classified Employee of the Year contest. We would like to invite you to join us in recognizing our 2023 Regional Classified Employee of the Year, Christopher Harris!

This year spring break was a little more special for 20 migrant students from the Highland and Mount Adams school districts who were welcomed to Camp Ghormley by our Migrant Education Program for a 3-night, 4-day STEM camp!
This STEM camp engaged the students in hands-on science in nature lessons including nocturnal hikes, water studies (how to find hydration in the wilderness), bird studies, glow chemistry, fire safety and wayfinding! Not only did the students learn a lot, they also had a LOT of fun with traditional overnight camp experiences like campfires with S'mores, ziplines, art, games and plenty of time to connect!
This once in a lifetime experience was provided completely free of charge for students through migrant funding! We look forward to more unique opportunities to serve our migrant students!

TEAMING STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES THROUGH MTSS AND ISF
Learning, collaboration & plenty of smiles! On May 24th, over 140 educators, counselors and administrators from across the region joined our student support team at the Yakima Convention Center.
Through whole group learning, team time and job alike collaboration, attendees explored various topics focused on how teams can use the M.T.S.S. (Multi Tiered System of Support) and ISF (Interconnected Systems Framework) approaches to ensure the whole child is being served!
To learn more about how you can support students through the use of the M.T.S.S. approach, contact Brandon Riddle.

8 Clock Hours Available
This course will help teachers, paraeducators, and school staff working with visually impaired students by equipping them with easy strategies to prepare for a successful year. This course will highlight sample lesson plans, common adaptations, and how to prepare and collaborate with the help of your Teacher for Vision Impaired students (TVI) team on all accommodations. Our goal is to increase your confidence in working with visually impaired students.
Students that wear glasses do not always qualify! Educators will also gain an understanding of vision diagnoses and who might qualify for vision services. This is an experiential course, so participants should be prepared for hands-on experience to better understand how to support and cue visually impaired students.
Lunch will be provided.
