School Named for Trailblazers Lutrill & Pearl Payne
|
A Message From Interim Director Laura Choate:
We are honored to announce that in December the LSU Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to approve the name change for the School of Education. We are now officially named the LSU Lutrill & Pearl Payne School of Education in honor of the Payne family. The Paynes were trailblazers in opening doors for Black graduate students at LSU.
According to LSU President William Tate, “The Paynes’ perseverance and their dedication to education make them a defining part of LSU’s history. Honoring Black pioneers like Lutrill and Pearl Payne and recognizing their courage, strength, and formidable spirit strengthens our community as a whole”. Please read President Tate’s announcement letter to learn more about this exciting chapter in the history of SOE.
