Miami ID Card and Technology

You will use your Miami ID Card for many things on campus. You will obtain your ID card when you arrive, and submitting your photo online in advance will expedite the process. You need to go to this Miami ID Webpage to upload your photo.
If you are thinking of purchasing a laptop or a cellphone before/upon arrival, the Miami University Bookstore provides the Miami Laptop Program and MiTech Cellular Plan.
We encourage you to start checking your Miami email account before arrival. If you have technical issues with your computer, email, Miami's wireless internet network or Banner/unique ID and password you can email ithelp@miamioh.edu.

aetna website: Welcome o the Miami University student health insurance

Health Insurance

All international students are required to enroll in the Miami University Aetna Student Health Plan. Exceptions to this requirement may be made for students who provide proof of one of the following:
  • full sponsorship by a government agency, which includes health insurance
  • comparable health insurance from your parent's or spouse's U.S. employer
Submit the International Student Insurance Requirement Appeal Form (located under "Other Student Services") no later than January 24, 2020 to request an exception based on one of the above categories. Note that your request will be denied if your insurance policy is not comparable to the Miami University Aetna Student Health Plan. Also note that international students will not have the option to use the Aetna waiver portal online to be exempt from the Student Health Plan.

Immunization Form

Please review Miami University's immunization requirements prior to arrival. All new students are required to submit an Immunization Form before classes begin. You may complete the form and bring it with you, or you may bring other documentation of your vaccinations (for example, your "yellow book") with you in order to complete the form during orientation. You will be scheduled for a time to visit Student Health Services during orientation. If you require any additional vaccinations, you will be able to obtain them through Student Health Services on campus.
Important Notes:
  • If you have had chickenpox already, you have two options: get a titer to prove that you have immunity, or get the varicella vaccination.
  • In some countries, the Tdap vaccination is only given to children. Because whooping cough is an emergent issue, we require that all college students have the Tdap vaccination. If you cannot receive it in your home country, you'll have to wait and get it here at Miami.
  • It is better to get multiple doses for one vaccination in the same location. If you have not started getting the Hepatitis B vaccine, we suggest you wait and get the Hepatitis B vaccine here at Miami since you have to wait 6 months for Dose 3 after getting Dose 1.
  • Upon your arrival, you are required to take a tuberculosis (TB) test. This must be done inside the United States. We will schedule a time for you to complete this requirement during your orientation.
If you have any questions about the immunization form, the tuberculosis test, or Miami's student health insurance plan, please email shsmiami@trihealth.com.

Undergraduate Student iPOL Profiles

When you arrive at Miami University for orientation, you will have a designated International Peer Orientation Leader (iPOL) to help you through orientation. Here are the profiles of our Spring 2020  iPOLs:
Hey guys! My name is Jugal and I'm a senior majoring in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Entrepreneurship. I'm from Mumbai, India. My most memorable moments at Miami include coming back after every break to see my friends again, taking part in different events on campus, and going to football and ice hockey games. The goals I had coming to college were to excel academically, learn moral values which I will retain and use throughout my life, and be a part of extracurricular activities. I'm involved in The Miami Student newspaper as the Photo Editor because I love Photography. Being thousands of miles away from your family, you'll find a new diverse family here which will teach you many values and skills that help you develop as a person. It gets much better here at Miami with every semester you finish! "
Callen profile picture
"Hi everyone! My name is Callen Conroy. I am a senior studying microbiology, pre-medicine. I am from Chicago, IL. Being able to make such amazing friends is something that I've loved about Miami.  Every year, my friends and I take a trip to Hueston Woods on the first weekend back from summer break. I continue to look forward to all the amazing people that I will meet as I finish out my senior year. One piece of advice that I have is to find time to enjoy yourself. There are so many opportunities to do fun things on campus and in Oxford, and you should definitely take advantage of the time that you have to enjoy yourself in college."
