January 2020
A warm hello to our Denison Family!
We hope your student has had a restful and enjoyable Winter Break. We are excited to welcome students back to campus next week. Below is some information you might find to be helpful as the Spring Semester begins.
Denison Everywhere: You’re Invited!
You are invited to attend the 15th annual edition of what has become one of Denison’s most popular traditions: Denison Everywhere. Join us on Wednesday, January 29, from 6 to 8 p.m., in more than 80 cities across the country and around the world! Learn more and register here.
Students can shake off the winter blahs at the Winter Involvement Fair
With more than 170 registered student organizations, your student can find new ways to get involved on campus at the Winter Involvement Fair from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, in Slayter Hall Student Union.
Get a fresh start to the second semester
As students start their second semester, they may have some mixed feelings. This is normal. You can find some concrete suggestions for parents to help their students here. You’ll find other ideas here, including help at the Academic Resource Center, and information about the Productivity Circle, a weekly group that helps students manage workloads and deadlines.
A reminder to families of May 2020 graduates
As you make plans for Commencement Weekend 2020 scheduled for May 15-16, we encourage you to visit our Commencement web section for information about the weekend schedule and campus accommodations.
A message from The Knowlton Career Center
Some of your students may have reported on fellow classmates who have already “landed,” and perhaps your own student may be among those who have done so, and if so, congratulations! We assure you, however, that most of our seniors are still “in process.” The Knowlton Center is here to help your student, regardless of where they are on their career journey.
The vast majority of seniors have already spent some time talking with a career coach at the Knowlton Center (or with a faculty or staff member who serves as a mentor/coach) about their post-graduation pursuits.
If your senior is still processing “what’s next”:
  • Set up a 1:1 coaching appointment when they return to campus.
  • Remind them to read the Knowlton Note - there’s a special edition just for seniors every week.
  • We will reach out to every senior who has never had a coaching appointment or who has not met with anyone in our office during the fall semester, but we welcome your help in encouraging them to come see us! There is still plenty of time for your student to develop and engage in this process.
This week, more than 70 seniors are participating in our third annual Career Ready Boot Camp. Thank you for your support in encouraging them to join!
Here’s to a great second semester for both you and your student! Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns at career@denison.edu.
We’re here for you!
And we wish you and your student a relaxing end to winter break and a healthy start to the spring semester.
Go Big Red!
