Applications Open for 2025 Freshwater@UW Summer Research Program |
Applications are open for the Freshwater@UW Summer Research Opportunities Program. Students participate in hands-on mentored research experiences at one of the 13 Universities of Wisconsin institutions. This is a paid, on-site research experience for undergraduates interested in water research.

Great Lakes Freshwater Symposium: Offshore Wind, Dec. 10 |
The next online Great Lakes Freshwater Symposium takes place Dec. 10 at noon. Cora Sutherland will present the Center for Water Policy’s legal research on Great Lakes offshore wind energy. Her talk, titled Great Lakes Offshore Wind (GLOW): Legal design choices and research questions, will distinguish the Great Lakes region from ocean waters in the United States, explore legal design and planning choices, and summarize a recent NSF-funded research workshop on GLOW. Open to all.

| Legislative Informational Hearing on Freshwater Collaborative Projects |
Thank you to Sen. Cowles and Rep. Kitchens for hosting a legislative informational hearing about the Freshwater Collaborative on Nov. 1.
The event included speakers from eight Freshwater Collaborative-funded projects who discussed their statewide research and programming. Thank you to our presenters from Chippewa Valley Bean, Jacobs Engineering, UW-Green Bay, UW-Milwaukee, UW Oshkosh, UW-River Falls, UW-Stevens Point, UW-Stout and Wisconsin Sea Grant.

New Phosphorus Report from UW-Madison Researchers |
A new report from UW-Madison researchers titled Bridging a Major Disconnect: Ideas for Farm Standards and Systems to Achieve Phosphorus Goals in Wisconsin Lakes and Streams summarizes themes from interviews with water quality professionals and farmers across Wisconsin. The report contains a map of county averaged phosphorus mass balance.

Lake Sturgeon Bowl Annual Competition |
The annual Lake Sturgeon Bowl is accepting high school team applications for the 2025 competition. The 24th annual competition will take place Jan. 31-Feb. 1, 2025, at the UW-Milwaukee School of Freshwater Sciences. Please share with high school teachers you know. Volunteers are always needed.

Summer 2025 Watershed Management Research and Outreach Undergraduate Internship Program |
Applications are open for the Summer 2025 Watershed Management Research and Outreach Undergraduate Internship Program. Interns will be placed in one of six different locations throughout the North Central Region and placed with extension faculty mentors working on topics such as agricultural conservation, limnology, riparian management and more. Applications due Nov. 18.

Undergraduate Communications Intern: This is a paid internship for the 2024-2025 academic year. This position offers the chance for an undergraduate student at UW-Milwaukee to gain hands-on experience in water policy communications. Learn more.
Water Policy and Science Communications Grad Fellow: This is a fully funded position that runs fall 2025 through spring 2027. Candidates should be interested in conducting graduate research toward a thesis focused on water policy and science communications. Must enroll in the master's degree program at the UW-Milwaukee School of Freshwater Sciences. Learn more
