Dear Student,

Greetings from Oxford, Ohio where the warmer weather has been lifting our spirits and reminding us that spring is on the way. We have been heartened by the decrease in COVID-19 cases nationwide and increased vaccination rates in Ohio (over 17% of the population has received at least the first dose of the vaccination so far) as well as the expectation that all adults will have the opportunity to be vaccinated by this summer.

It has now been one year since Miami University moved fully online in light of the coronavirus pandemic. Some of you have not been on campus, or even in the US, since March 2020. Others, who began studies in Fall 2020 or Spring 2021, have never been to campus. You have all been greatly missed. Your presence on campus provides a richness and a vibrance that has been noticeably absent. Studying online presents a number of challenges, and international students who are outside the US have had the added challenge of taking courses in different time zones that require class meetings during the middle of the night. We recognize the sacrifices you have made and are inspired by your resilience and dedication.

President Crawford announced on March 4 that Miami University plans to return to regular in-person operations in the fall. We are excited by the prospect of having our international students back on campus. We look forward to welcoming you back for Fall 2021 and returning to the bustling campus and global student body that defines Miami University.

We know there are a variety of hurdles to returning to campus. Many of you are in countries that are currently subject to travel restrictions that prevent direct entry into the US. Some may be concerned about the vaccination process in the US and to what extent our population will be vaccinated by August. There may be a variety of other concerns. We want to hear from you to understand what your primary concerns are. We are committed to working with you to answer your questions, provide information, and assist with your return to campus. The ISSS office is a great resource for information about obtaining the documents necessary to return and is offering monthly webinars to provide information and answer questions. Watch your email for more details.

Above all, please know that we are deeply committed to your success at Miami University and to seeing you earn your diploma from our great institution. We can’t wait to see you back on campus this fall. In the meantime, please continue to stay safe and healthy.

Love and Honor,
