Dear District Leader,

Thank you for your continued leadership in the National Speech & Debate Association! Your participation in and leadership of the NSDA district tournament series provides tens of thousands of students with incredible experiences in speech and debate competition. We are so grateful for all that you do.
Below we have provided some important information regarding registration for the 2018-2019 NSDA district tournament series. To ensure that all districts receive their materials on time and that the appropriate steps have been taken at the national office, district tournament registration due dates are as follows:
  • All NSDA districts beginning any portion of their event between Nov. 1 and Dec. 31, 2018 MUST complete the tournament registration process by Oct. 31, 2018.
  • All NSDA districts who are beginning their tournament series after Jan. 1, 2019 MUST complete the tournament registration process by Nov. 30, 2018
We ask that all district leaders also consider the pilot programs we are offering this year, which are described below. Again, thank you for all that you do for students!

Tournament Series Notes

The entire NSDA district tournament series must be completed by May 1, 2019.
Failure to register by the above stated deadlines may result in the inability to provide your district with NSDA awards and materials and/or the inability of the NSDA to sanction your qualifying event.
During the registration process, you will be asked to provide several pieces of information, including the dates and locations of each portion of your tournament series, the various district awards that you intend to present, and which tournament software system you intend to use for your events. As a reminder, ALL district tournament series must be run using approved tournament software to be sanctioned as a qualifying event.

Pilot Qualification Methods

You also have the option to pilot a new system(s) for qualification this year. The piloting is optional and can be done in one or more of the following areas: debate (CX, LD, PF - must do all three), Congressional Debate, and/or all speech events. Tabroom, Joy of Tournaments, or Speechwire may be used for the pilots. To understand more about the rationale for piloting alternative options and the pilot procedures that have been designed, please visit the Pilot District Qualification Manual and read an overview of the pilot process.

Pilot Internet Rules

A final option for districts this year is to pilot a set of new internet usage rules in debate, Congress, and/or Extemp. These new procedures can be found in the High School Unified Manual or by reading the Pilot Internet Rules description.
