2024 was a year of firsts for UMKC PCE-Career U! |
- In Spring 2024, we held our first PCE-Career U Summit. Students spent a morning at the UMKC Volker Campus participating in college and career readiness programming, heard from our keynote speaker from the Chiefs, and engaged with current PCE students and UMKC staff. The whole event was free for students & high school staff to attend!
- PCE-Career U hosted our first summer camp! In July, we had thirteen KC metro high school students spend three days and two nights on campus at no cost to the students. The campers got to meet and connect with UMKC staff, attend a Majors & Minors Fair, sit in on a college class, and just see what it would be like to be a Roo!
- In Fall 2024, we attended sixteen recruitment events around the KC metro area. We spoke to members of community based organizations, attended college fairs, and visited high school classrooms to share about PCE-Career U and the Professional Career Escalators program.
- Workshops continued to be held during the spring and fall semesters. All were held virtually. The workshops were free to any student to attend! Some of the topics were an information session about PCE, scholarships & financial aid, a college student panel, and a professionals panel.
|
Spring & Summer Events 2025 |
PCE-Career U will not be hosting virtual workshops during the spring semester. We will be hosting free on-campus events such as our Career Summit in April and our summer camp in June!
You do not have to be set on attending UMKC to attend our events. PCE-Career U is here to let you know about our opportunities at UMKC and provide support and guidance to further college access.

What are current students’ thoughts about the UMKC PCE program? |
|
|
| -
What is something you would encourage PCE students to do? “I would encourage students to talk to people. It’s a simple thing, but as someone who doesn’t talk much, the more I talked the more excited I got! It was easier to fill out my checklist because I wanted to get more involved!” -Year 3 PCE Law & Justice Student
- What is it like being in the PCE cohorts? “I feel that being in the healthcare track is very rewarding. We have so many opportunities to connect with many professionals from different healthcare and cultural backgrounds. We are also able to explore many facilities!”-Year 3 PCE Healthcare Student
-
What is your favorite part of PCE? “I love the Hop-In and Hop-Back-In events! I enjoy meeting all the PCE students that I wouldn’t see otherwise!’ -Year 2 PCE Education Student
-
Why is it important to you as an undergrad to have a post-grad plan? “I think college is daunting for everyone. UMKC is about starting your adulthood, which can be intimidating, but it also gives me the drive. PCE gives you a lot more purpose, and has been by my side when I have been faced with rejection and disappointment. It has allowed me to see that I am taking the necessary steps needed for my adulthood!” -Year 2 PCE Healthcare Student

Connor Davis, Program Manager |
Hi all!
My name is Connor Davis and I am the Program Manager for Career U! I attended Kansas State University and graduated with Bachelor’s Degrees in Life Sciences and Social Sciences in 2019. Immediately after graduation, I continued with graduate school at Kansas State to complete a Master’s Degree in Communication Studies.
I’m very passionate about holistic support and development for students and have been able to pursue this passion through the College Advising Corps and now at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. I love to help with the college going process and discuss other opportunities outside of the standard college plan. Please do not hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns, even if UMKC is not where you see yourself at this point in time!
I have two dogs, Maizie and Bean, and watch New Girl on repeat. When I’m not working, I love volunteering at KC Pet Project, running, or going to the public library!
