Employer Awards

Each year, Commuter Connections (part of the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments) recognizes companies around the Washington region who are doing great things for their employees to help them get out of their cars and onto transit or into carpools and teleworkCommuter Connections is currently seeking nominations for their Annual Employer Recognition Awards for companies who are leaders in the following categories:
  • Incentives - Providing benefits that make using alternative transportation modes easier, and more attractive to employees.
  • Marketing - Promoting alternative commuting options to employees.
  • Teleworking - Initiating or enhancing a successful telework program for employees.
Bethesda has a proud tradition of nominating many companies for regional recognition. In fact, Bethesda's own Cadmus Group (CEO Ian Kline pictured at last year's awards breakfast) was recognized in 2014 for their outstanding transit incentives program.

If you would like for your company to be considered, please contact Derrick Harrigan at BTS - Dharrigan@bethesda.org 301-656-0868 X126.  Derrick will help you draft your company’s nomination using information in your Traffic Mitigation Plan. Hurry!  The deadline for nominations is January 31, 2015!
Commuter Spotlight: Jenny Burns, Honest Tea
The mission of Honest Tea is not only to make great beverages. The Bethesda-based company also wants to grow their business in a sustainable manner.
This is a mission that Mission Director, Jenny Burns, takes to heart in a way that is good for her heart!
Burns lives in DC and does not have a car. To get to work, she walks to the Metro, rides to Bethesda, and walks to her office. She estimates that she walks about 30 minutes per day as part of her commute. “I like listening to music and podcasts during my commute,” says Burns.
Walking and taking transit keeps me on my toes. I always have flats in my purse and am ready for anything.”
Honest Tea offers a $75 per month transit subsidy to make taking transit more feasible for their employees. In addition, the company offers employees a free bike, called an “Honest Bike,” so they can bike to work. Several employees bike to work and the company has showers in their building.
Reminder: Ride On 'S' Service Plan
Our region has not been impacted by winter weather yet, but when the snow does fall, the County's Ride On Buses operate under the 'S' Service Plan.
The plan maintains some bus service on all Ride On routes.
Overnight Parking in County Garages
If you're leaving town for the holidays and are intending to park in one of Bethesda's County parking garages and take the Circulator to the Metro, there are a few things you should know:
Montgomery County allows overnight parking, but the County is not liable for theft or vandalism that may occur.
The hours of required payment for the garages in Bethesda are 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Parking is free on Saturdays, Sundays and County Holidays in the County garages.
Double check to make sure  you park in a long-term parking space.
