2020/2021 Graduates Convocation Updates!

We are glad to bring students some happy news about convocation! The College of Social and Behavioral Science will hold in-person convocation for undergraduate and graduate students of the Class of 2021 and the Class of 2020. We are also pleased to announce that each graduate participating in our 2021 college convocation ceremony will be allowed to bring up to two guests. Each guest will be required to register for tickets. Please watch for details over the next two weeks for ticketing information. Masks must be worn by all attendees and physical distancing guidelines will be followed, with seating spaced throughout the venues.

Candidates for Bachelor’s Degree:
Undergraduate convocation for the classes of 2020-2021 will be held outdoors in the Rice-Eccles Stadium on Friday, May 7, at 11:30 a.m. Attendance is not mandatory but we hope that those who graduated last year and those who will graduate this year will be able to attend this ceremony and celebrate with your classmates. More information to come. 
Candidates for Master’s and Doctoral Degrees: 
In special recognition of 2020-2021 graduates receiving their master’s degree or Ph.D., an in-person ceremony will take place Aug. 27 at Red Butte Garden amphitheater. This will allow for the traditional in-person hooding of Ph.D. students. More details will be provided later. 

Note: Family and friends of graduates are invited to watch the live-streamed event of the General Commencement on Thursday, May. 27, and the College convocations on May 7 and Aug. 27. Find more details here!

2021 CSBS Virtual Student Research Day

Wednesday, April 28th, 12:00pm - 2:00pm 

Both graduate and undergraduate students in the college will be given the opportunity to showcase original research projects using virtual poster presentations. Students, faculty, and the University of Utah community are encouraged to attend.
Three cash prizes will be awarded for best virtual poster presentation in each of the graduate research and undergraduate research categories. The Student Choice Award will be given out to the student whose poster receives the most votes during the main exhibition period.
First Prize: $250 
Second Prize: $150 
Third Prize: $100 
Student Choice Award: $100
As an exciting part of the 50th celebration, we are asking all participants to submit a research abstract with their registration to be a part of the inaugural digital journal archive.

April Fulbright Info Sessions

Fulbright provides annual grants for U.S. students wishing to conduct research, teach English, or obtain an MA degree in a foreign country. Senior undergrads and graduate students in all disciplines are eligible to apply.

Ask An Ambassador: How I Found My Major

Hear from our CSBS Student Ambassadors each month as they host discussions open to all students on a range of topics. This month, hear from current students in the College of Social and Behavioral Science (CSBS) discuss how they found their major, and tips and tricks for finding the right major for you. We will have a panel discussion focused on major exploration and majors in CSBS, resources, and time for Q&A.
This month's discussion will be held on April 19, at 3:00 PM.

Violence Against Women of Color & Asian-Americans Discussion Panel

Join us for a discussion panel about racial injustices that have been prevlaent in our history, as well as recent injustices. The aim of this discussion panel is to provide support and community to the student body. Edmund Fong, the chair of the Ethnic Studies Department at the University of Utah, and Maryan Shale, the Black Student Union president at the University of Utah, will be leading the discussion panel.

Get Help with Online Classes

As we are reaching the end of the semester and many students are beginning to think of Finals, it’s best to connect with your available resources sooner, rather than later –if you’re not feeling confident with course material. As a reminder, Finals Week is from April 29th to May 5th.
Reach out to your class TA and set up a time to meet via video conferencing to go over class materials and subjects you might have missed.
Tutors are available to meet with students via video conferencing to work on a wide range of subjects, all free of charge! To learn more about eTutoring and set up a free tutoring session, visit the eTutoring website. The University Writing Center can also help with writing final papers and other written class assignments.
The Learning Center offers individual tutoring for over 150 individual CSBS courses from ANTH 1010 to SOC 3673. Visit their website to see if they offer tutoring for your class and schedule a session today.
