Class of 2022

  • WELCOME TO YOUR SENIOR YEAR! Read this great article about how to "Prepare your teen for their senior year"

  • Senior Parent Night: ALL senior parents and students are invited.   Monday, September 13, 6:30pm in the SCA Choir Room. 

  • FAFSA information: Click here to learn about what a FAFSA is, who needs to apply (spoiler: everyone!) and how to prepare to file beginning October 1.

Class of 2023

  • Welcome to your junior year!  Reality Check: this year will be packed full of information on how to start now to prepare for the future.  Here is a great checklist that can give you some information to help as you begin your junior year. 

Class of 2024

  • Welcome Sophomore Class! It may seem early to start thinking about getting your child ready for college, but it really isn’t — important groundwork should take place in 9th and 10th grades. Click here for a list to help you make sure your childis on the right path.

Class of 2025

  • Welcome to high school!  This newsletter comes out monthly and will be FULL of information throughout your high school career to help with getting successfully through high school at SCA as well as help in making plans for your future. 

  • Getting a jump start on college! Did you know that important groundwork should take place in 9th and 10th grades in perparing for college. Click here for a list to help you make sure your child is on the right path.
  • Save the Date! SCA's College Workshop will be held on DATE CHANGE - Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 6:00pm in the SCA Choir Room.  We encourage all our juniors and seniors (and their parents) who are planning to attend college after high school to attend this information night.

  • College Reps Coming BACK to campus!  We are so thankful that we are able to invite colleges such as CBU, PLU, Whitworth, and more to campus to share information about their schools with our high school students.  Watch for more information to come out about specific dates and times they will be available.

  • Christian College Fair - this year the Christian College Fair will be back in person!  September 28, 2021 6-8pm at Life Christian (1717 S Union Avenue Tacoma, WA 98405).  Learn more here

  • Common App Now Open!  The CommonApp opened for Fall 2022 college applications on August 1st.    

  • Colleges taking applications now! Many colleges are now accepting applications for Fall 2022. Make sure to take note of specific college deadlines both for the application and for financial aid.  They may be different dates!

  • Starting to write those college application essays?  Here is a great article in what they are looking for more specifically.
Did you know you can explore future careers based on what kind of eduction  your want to pursue after high school, or by pay level, or a multitude of other options?  Check out the Occupational Outlook Handbook through the US Bureau of Labor Statistics for more information. 
  • Scholarships on the website!  Upcoming scholarships are currently located on our website.  Make sure to check back often.

  • Scholarship Search Engines: Remember, you should never have to pay for a scholarship search! A few good searches include Big Future, Fastweb, Scholarships.com, and Going Merry .  

National SAT Practice Day

Saturday, September 18, 2021 - 9am PT

Join the CollegeBoard virtually for National SAT® Practice Test Day, hosted on the Khan Academy® YouTube channel. Sal Khan will kick off the event, and the Khan Academy team will provide proctor instructions as your teen works through a full-length SAT practice test in their Official SAT Practice account.

This event will help your teen join a community of thousands of students across the country taking an SAT practice test on Khan Academy at the same time.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to win prizes, including:
  • One-hour virtual SAT tutoring sessions with Dave Travis, Khan Academy's SAT content expert
  • $25 Amazon gift cards

Volunteer Hours!

Did you volunteer this summer?  Work at a SCA sports camp? Or help out at your church's VBS? Don't forget to turn your hours into the front office.  You can either complete this form or have your volunteer organizer send an email to tjones@soundchristianacademy.org (it can't come from the student or the parent).  Remember, all high school students are required to have the following number of volunteer hours:

Seniors (20 hours)
Juniors (15 hours)
Sophomores (10 hours)
Freshmen (5 hours)

Want to Play Sports in College? 

Learn about the two different athletic associations here.  If you are planning to play sports post high school you may want to register with both associations and increase the numbers of colleges who will see you and connect with you as an athlete.  

Students can also visit the NCAA and create an account and find out more about eligibility requirements by visiting the NCAA Eligibility Center.
