The Nebraska Legislature is now in session. Many issues being discussed have an impact on the arts and arts education. It is important for legislators to learn from their constituents the importance of the arts in their districts.
Attend one of our upcoming Arts Advocacy Forums. We will be:
  • Reviewing the Governor's budget request.
  • Bills introduced by the 2017 Legislature that impact state and local arts opportunities.
  • Learn strategies and tactics to effectively make your case for the arts and arts education.

Arts Advocacy Day is the one day each year that arts advocates, organization leaders, and patrons come together to speak with our Nebraska legislators about the importance of supporting the arts and arts education in our state.
This year's events kick off with the Arts Advocacy Breakfast at the State Capitol. The event starts at 8:15a.m. with an opportunity to talk directly with State Senators. Afterwards, advocates visit State Senators and their offices.
Using Data to Make Your Case for the Arts - Panel Presentation
10:00a.m.-11:15a.m. - Nebraska State Office Building, Lincoln
While you know that data can support telling policymakers, donors, and patrons about your organization’s impact on your community’s economy and well-being, it's not always easy to understand how to find and use data in the most effective way. This presentation includes representatives from WESTAF, the providers of Creative Vitality Suite, and arts organizations to demonstrate ways to find and use the data you want or need.
Lunch n' Learn - Tools for Supporting Arts & Creative Industries
noon-1:00p.m.- Nonprofit Hub, 14th & P Street, Lincoln
Grab a meal from nearby restaurants, then learn about technology the Western States Arts Federation (WESTAF) has to support your creative projects. Learn about application systems to effectively manage public art projects, residencies, exhibitions, arts shows, festivals, and fairs. Also learn about the progress of Independent Music on Tour (IMTour), a pilot program for Front Range musicians and nonprofit presenters.
Registration is only $15 to cover the cost of the continental breakfast and refreshments at the two presentations. All are welcome to attend! Click here to register. 

Afternoon Sessions Added - Get Your Grant Skills Tuned Up!
The Nebraska Arts Council (NAC) is offering the following workshops during the afternoon:
Grant Basics & Program Information w/ Humanities Nebraska
1:30p.m.-2:15p.m. Nonprofit Hub, 14th & P Street, Lincoln
Attendees will learn about the mission and structure of NAC and HN, as well as grant categories, deadlines and other opportunities. 
Beyond the Basics: Grant Writing Tips & Techniques
2:30p.m.-3:30p.m. Nonprofit Hub, 14th & P Street, Lincoln
This workshop is designed for current grant applicants who have questions about completing a NAC application; common problems with applications and recommendations for better narratives, budgets and required materials will be covered.
Registration for each workshop is strongly recommended, but not required. RSVP 24 hours in advance via Survey Monkey or email nac.grants@nebraska.gov

In support of artists living and working in Lincoln, NE, The Kimmel Foundation offers two 2-week residencies at The Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska City. One emerging or early career writer and one visual artist are selected. The awards are presented during the Mayor's Arts Awards (June 7, 2017) and includes a 2-week residency at the KHNC plus $1,000 stipend. There is no cost to apply.
Call for Applications: 2017 National Creative Placemaking Fund
ArtPlace America has $9.5 million available for projects that work with artists and arts organizations to build stronger, healthier communitieis anywhere in the U.S.  Applicants will need to register in the ArtPlace Fluxx system by February 14, 2017 and then submit their project by February 22, 2017.  Click Here for more details and to view the application process.
